Maintains safety and security of patients at all times by assisting nursing staff in the monitoring of patients in the emergency department, including patients with mental health diagnoses (such as psychiatric conditions and suicidal ideation) and behavioral health issues. Assists in providing a safe environment for cognitively impaired, disoriented, manic, and/or self-harming patients. Communicates and collaborates with care team members to support the provision of safe, high-quality health care.
All duties are carried out under the direction, discretion, and supervision of the Registered Nurse. Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary. Supports the Mission of Trinity Health and Holy Cross Health.
- Monitor and assist patients in the emergency department while ensuring safety and security.
- Communicate with care team members to support safe, high-quality health care.
- Follow directions of the Registered Nurse and adhere to department policies.
- Support the mission and values of Holy Cross Health.
- Nursing assistant certification preferred
- BLS/CPR certification required
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous experience in an acute healthcare facility with mental health or psychiatric patients preferred.
- Ability to relate to individuals with behavioral or mental health disorders.
- Ability to complete required training and demonstrate knowledge and skills.
- Computer and audiovisual skills (Internet, email, word processing, electronic medical record).
- Ability to work in a high-stress environment; strong reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension of English.
- Effective eye–hand coordination and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to multi-task, organize, and prioritize; work well with individuals and teams.
Must be able to independently perform essential job functions.
- Physical requirements:
lift up to 35 pounds; push/pull/move patients and equipment; bend; kneel; operate computer. - Visual acuity: ability to perform tasks requiring close visual inspection and data entry.
- Auditory acuity: ability to identify and distinguish alarms in noisy environments.
- Environment: hospital hazards typical of healthcare settings.
$17.00 – $20.55 per hour. Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under FLSA will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may vary by location.
