Phlebotomist Representative II

Represents the face of our company to patients within the hospital systems at Quest Diagnostics, both as part of their routine health management or for insights into life-defining health decisions. The Phlebotomist II draws quality blood samples from patients while following established practices and procedures. The Phlebotomist II has direct contact with patients and creates an atmosphere of trust and confidence while explaining procedures to patients and drawing blood specimens in a skillful, safe and accurate manner.

The Phlebotomist II will demonstrate Quest Leadership Behaviors while focusing on process excellence skills and sensitivity to confidentiality and accuracy to patient information. Successful applicants will be assigned to work in a fast-paced hospital environment. Performing phlebotomy tasks in extreme patient and environmental conditions.

Pay range: $23.20 - $24.90 / hour

Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

Responsibilities
  • Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection on patients of all age groups, including but not limited to pediatric and trauma patients.
  • Accurately label and process specimens according to laboratory protocol.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of phlebotomy carts and work areas.
  • Administer oral solutions according to established training, such as Glucola.
  • Data entry and processing specimens including labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens as required by test order, where applicable.
  • Perform departmental-related clerical duties when assigned such as data entry, inventory, stock supplies, and answer phones when needed.
  • Read, understand and comply with departmental policies, protocols and procedures: (i.e. Procedure Manuals, Safety Manual, Compliance Manual, Employee Handbook, Quality Assurance Manual); and ensure that all staff members follow instructions.
  • Observe infection control and safety protocols at all times.
  • Assist with compilation and submission of monthly statistics and data.
  • Maintain all appropriate phlebotomy logs in a timely manner and based on frequency, such as maintenance logs and temperature logs.
  • Responsible for completing all data entry requirements accurately including data entry of patient registration; entry of test order from requisition or pulling order from database; managing Standing Orders.
  • Complete training courses and keep up to date with the latest phlebotomy techniques.
  • Assist with special projects and teams.
  • Stay up to date on company communications and assist with the distribution of technical information to the work group.
  • With appropriate training, act as mentor, point of contact and training resource for new employees, assist with transition into the hospital work environment and the familiarity with established procedures.
  • Assist with periodic inventory counts.
  • Communicate professionally with clients to resolve or refer, and document problems, prepare problem documentation and report critical issues as they occur.
