Medical Assistant Job Summary

The Medical Assistant works with general methods and procedures, exercises considerable independent judgement to select the proper course of action and is required to review the work of subordinate technicians to ensure conformance with established guidelines, methods, procedures, and policies.

Reporting

Reports to the franchise owner/manager or designee and to client supervisors and managers.

Education

Completion of a medical assistant course or comparable training.

Licensure

None required. Some clients may require national medical assistant certification.

Experience

At least one year of experience.

Credentials
  • Background screening as required by Section 7.
  • OIG, SAM, OFAC and NSO screening.
  • Current health provider CPR from the American Heart Association at the BLS level.
  • Hepatitis B Statement or Declination [OSHA 29 CFR, (f)(2)].
  • Two‑step TB test prior to entering the correctional facility. This test consists of two‑step testing with one week between tests, unless the applicant supplies documentation of a negative TB skin test result within the preceding 12 months. A temporary staff employee may not commence employment until the second TB test results are confirmed negative. A temporary staff employee with a previous positive TB test result must provide current documentation of a negative chest x‑ray performed in the last 30 days.

    The Quantiferon Gold test may be used in lieu of the two‑step TB test.
  • Drug screening will be a 5‑panel drug screen test that tests for:
    Amphetamines, Cocaine, Opiates, Marijuana, and PCP.
Environmental Working Conditions
  • Work sites vary.
  • Possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other potentially infectious materials.
  • The physical demands are representative of those that may be required by an employee to successfully perform the representative duties and responsibilities of the job. Applicant should be able to read medical equipment and documents. Pushing carts and medical equipment may be a component of the job.
  • A pre‑employment physical is required for this position:
    The physical will determine if the temporary staff employee can handle the physical demands of the work, which include the following items:
    The employee must be able to perform CPR; lift at least 30 pounds; walk up and down the stairs; position patients; walk long distances; stand for prolonged periods, and, use restraints and aggressive behaviour management practices.
Representative Duties and Responsibilities
  • Complies with CapsuleAID Healthcare Services policies and procedures.
  • Maintain records, prepare reports and correspondences.
  • Knowledge of laboratory terminology and equipment as necessary/specified by the working environment.
  • Methods of analysing blood, sputum, milk, water, urine, food products, contaminates, soil, industrial and municipal waste.
  • Maintains confidentiality related to patient, family, client facility and staff in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Provides patient care in a non‑judgmental, non‑discriminatory manner that considers cultural diversity and age appropriateness so that autonomy, rights, and dignity are preserved.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
