Main Purpose of Job

This position designs, facilitates and evaluates art therapy treatment to aid in the recovery of psychiatrically ill adults and adolescents in both the Admissions and Extended Care areas of Spring Grove Hospital Center.

The Art Therapist II focuses on providing comprehensive art therapy programming in the form of groups:

  • Group Art Psychotherapy with emphasis on self-awareness and gaining insight from created art;
  • Art As Therapy with focus on the art process and feeling successful about an end product;
  • Open Art Therapy Studio for self-exploration and increasing independence;
  • Individual Art Therapy for those patients who require special attention, eventually transitioned to a Group Art Therapy;
  • Specialized Art Therapy assessments for a specific issue or gathering helpful information for the treatment teams not otherwise obtained from verbal therapy.

The Art Therapist II provides art therapy in efforts to improve self-expression, cognitive, sensory motor function, self-esteem, self-awareness, emotional resilience as well as reducing stress in a safe, supportive, consistent environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the requirements for Licensed Clinical Professional Art Therapist (LCPAT).

Experience:

Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the requirements for Licensed Clinical Professional Art Therapists (LCPAT).

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Candidates placed in this classification must be licensed by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists as a Clinical Professional Art Therapist (LCPAT).
  • Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties may be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
  • Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete cardiopulmonary resuscitation training and maintain current certification.
  • Employees in this classification assigned to facilities with a swimming pool may be required to obtain Red Cross instruction and certification in Life Saving and Water Safety prior to permanent appointment.
