Are you an experienced science policy professional passionate about advancing vision and eye-related biomedical research? We seek a Health Science Policy Officer with expertise in vision science to lead science policy analysis, strategic planning, portfolio evaluation, and legislative activities that advance NEI's mission and support extramural research programs. In your resume, describe your experience with science policy, strategic planning, portfolio analysis, and stakeholder engagement.

In order to qualify for a Health Science Policy Officer, GS-0601, position you must have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position.

(This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained).

In addition, in order to qualify for a Health Science Policy Officer, 0601 at the GS-15 level, you must have at least one year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks:

  • Developing and evaluating health science or biomedical, or vision research policies, programs, or initiatives;
  • Conducting strategic planning, portfolio analyses, or program evaluations to support vision research priorities and organizational objectives;
  • Serving as a spokesperson to promote vision-related or health science initiatives;
  • Analyzing legislation, regulations, or federal policies and preparing reports, briefings, or recommendations for leadership;
  • Applying qualitative and quantitative analyses to interpret scientific, vision research, or program data and communicate findings to support decision-making.
