Position
Description:
The Senior System Administrator provides advanced system administration, technical oversight, troubleshooting, configuration management, and security support services to ensure the operational availability, integrity, security, and compliance of Joint Pathology Center (JPC) information systems.
Minimum/General
Experience:
5 years of system administration experience.
Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree in information technology, computer science, cybersecurity, engineering, or related field;
Active certification meeting Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce (CSWF)/Information Assurance Technician (IAT) Level II requirements (e.g., Security+ CE, CySA+, CND, GSEC, GICSP, SSCP).
- Excellent experience performing system monitoring, troubleshooting, and configuration tasks.
- Excellent experience performing routine system administration and maintenance tasks.
- Excellent experience with Windows Server environments (2016, 2019, 2022).
- Excellent experience with Linux‑based medical devices and network‑connected peripherals.
- Experience with both physical and virtualized servers (e.g., VMware).
- Excellent experience with Microsoft Enterprise Configuration Management (MECM/SCCM).
- Experience leading system migrations, modernization efforts, and hardware/software upgrades.
- Experience with virtualization environments (e.g., vSphere).
- Experience with enterprise storage solutions (e.g., Net App, OneFS).
- Experience supporting a federal agency.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical thinking skills.
- Ability to work independently on complex issues.

Location:
Joint Pathology Center, 606 Stephen Sitter Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20910. - Sedentary work; occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; frequent or constant light lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or moving objects.
- Typing, communicating, and repetitive motions.
- Close visual acuity to review data, computer monitors, and presentation screens in a virtual setting.
- Work in indoor environments with protection from outside elements.
Active DoD Secret Clearance;
Ability to obtain DoD Top Secret Clearance as needed.
- U.S. Citizenship.
Consists of a review of up to but not limited to:
- 10‑year period and, in some instances, lifetime events.
- OPM Security Investigations Index (SII).
- DoD Defense Central Investigations Index (DCII).
- National Agency Check (NAC) records.
- FBI name check.
- FBI fingerprint check.
- Credit report check.
- Check of local law enforcement agencies with jurisdiction over the areas where the applicant has lived, worked, or attended school.
- Education check – attendance and degrees.
- Employment verification – may include supervisor or coworker interviews.
- Confirmation of all residences.
- Verification of public record information.
- Tasks/activities include, but are not limited to:
- Ensure full operational capability of JPC information systems, including Windows Server environments (2016, 2019, 2022), Linux‑based medical devices, and networked peripherals.
- Design, configure, and maintain DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, and advanced Group Policy environments.
- Oversee Microsoft Enterprise Configuration Management (MECM/SCCM) operations.
- Deploy, manage, and troubleshoot VMware virtualization environments, including vSphere.
- Perform administration and optimization of enterprise storage solutions, including Net App, OneFS, or equivalent systems.
- Ensure virtual and physical infrastructure supports mission performance and scalability.
