Silver Spring, United States | Posted on 05/28/2026

A candidate is needed to support the mission of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER), Office of Pharmaceutical Quality (OPQ), Office of Quality Surveillance (OQS). OQS seeks to be the global benchmark for pharmaceutical quality surveillance by turning intelligence into insights and actions to promote the availability of quality medicines for the American public.

This requires that FDA develop and implement modern and innovative techniques to achieve comprehensive surveillance and estimate the state of quality. OQS continuously monitors and provides the state of quality for all regulated sites and products. OQS assures that quality medicines are available through signal detection, data analytics, review of the state of quality, and proactive stakeholder engagement. Due to the increase in volume and variety of post‑market data, there is a need to apply more modern techniques, such as machine learning and advanced analytics, to achieve comprehensive surveillance and adequately estimate the state of quality.

Duties may include data loading, extraction, transformation, and load (ETL). Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. Prepares data reports and analyzes trends, links, patterns, and anomalies. May serve as a database administrator as collateral duty. May include preparation of data visualization and analysis presentations to customers. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Supports day‑to‑day project operations and performs assigned tasks.

Strong knowledge of SQL, Structured Query Language, Microsoft Excel, R, or Python – statistical programming. Data visualization, presentation skills, and machine learning.

Requirements
  • Perform data loading, extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes for FDA datasets. Prepare data reports and analyze trends, links, patterns, and anomalies in structured and unstructured data.

  • Prepare data presentations and visual narratives for FDA stakeholders, ensuring insights are clearly communicated.
  • Contribute to the development, maintenance, and documentation of data pipelines supporting surveillance and quality analytics programs.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and cross‑functional teams to understand data needs and provide technical recommendations.
