Computer Operator III

Position:
Computer Operator III (SCLS) at Koniag IT Systems, LLC, a Koniag Government Services company.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor and control mission‑critical computer systems, networks, and peripheral equipment to ensure uninterrupted operations.
  • Perform maintenance tasks: software updates, system backups, hardware checks, and performance tuning following established procedures.
  • Identify and troubleshoot complex operational issues, system errors, and hardware/software malfunctions; coordinate with technical support teams and vendors to resolve critical problems.
  • Ensure data security and integrity by implementing protocols for data backup, recovery, and access controls.
  • Maintain detailed records and documentation of system operations, maintenance activities, incidents, and performance metrics.
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and training to junior computer operators and support staff.
  • Collaborate with IT professionals, system administrators, and stakeholders to optimize performance, implement enhancements, and plan for future requirements.
  • Stay up‑to‑date with latest technologies, tools, and best practices in computer operations and maintenance; recommend process improvements.
  • Participate in project planning and implementation activities related to system upgrades, migrations, or new deployments.
Requirements Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
Work Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Ability
  • Minimum 5 years in computer operations, system administration, or related IT role.
  • At least 2 years in a supervisory or lead capacity.
  • Experience handling scheduled routines, operating the system, and resolving common error conditions.
  • Ability to diagnose and act on machine stoppage and error conditions not covered by existing procedures.
  • Skill to deviate from standard procedures when necessary, and refer unresolved problems to higher‑level supervisors.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA, Microsoft, Cisco) are required.
  • Extensive knowledge of computer systems, networks, peripheral equipment, operating systems, and administration tools.
  • Expert‑level troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Power Shell, Bash) and automation tools.
  • In‑depth understanding of data backup, recovery, security, and access control measures.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills; ability to analyze performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimizations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to document procedures and provide training.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring abilities; capacity to manage a team of junior personnel.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
Desired Skills and Competencies
  • Experience in a government or military IT environment with knowledge of regulations, compliance, and security protocols.
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies, cloud computing, containerization, and Dev Ops practices.
  • Understanding of project management methodologies; ability to contribute to project planning and implementation.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and best practices for secure system operations.
  • Experience with automation frameworks such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
  • Mentoring and developmental skills to foster continuous learning.
