Overview
The Senior Casualty/Property Liability Adjuster will manage all aspects of liability claims in the Washington DC/Baltimore market. The field‑based position requires evaluating coverage issues, determining liability, and supporting the client’s claims processing functions while ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. A strong investigative focus and the ability to handle complex claims with minimal supervision are essential.
Responsibilities- Conduct field investigations, site inspections, and gather evidence through phone and in‑person interviews with insureds, witnesses, claimants, experts, and other stakeholders.
- Obtain and review contracts, job files, appraisals, and relevant documentation to assess coverage and damage.
- Scope, measure, and write loss estimates using Xactimate and other tools.
- Analyze liability, damages, and coverage; recommend coverage solutions and prepare coverage letters when required.
- Prepare accurate, clear, and concise reports and letters to carriers, ensuring findings are well documented and defended.
- Coordinate with expert witnesses, attorneys, underwriting staff, investigators, and vendors to confirm findings and support claim decisions.
- Attend trials, arbitration, alternative dispute resolution, and face‑to‑face negotiations as required.
- Identify and manage complex claims involving contractor liability, product liability, construction defects, and other specialized areas, escalating to senior adjusters when necessary.
- Monitor third‑party liability opportunities and tender proposals through investigation and contract interpretation.
- Maintain detailed field notes, journal entries, time and expense records, and submit reimbursement reports in accordance with organizational policies and industry standards.
- Senior experience in claims handling preferred; active adjuster license required.
- Fundamental understanding of claims adjudication and basic knowledge of commercial/residential construction, automotive, or transportation industries.
- Basic knowledge of casualty claims law, jurisdictional issues, and code investigations.
- Proficiency in Xactimate and building estimate processes.
- Understanding of the Commercial General Liability Policy Form.
- Strong negotiating, conflict resolution, and persuasion skills.
- Ability to draft coverage letters with moderate supervision.
- Demonstrated investigative and research abilities at an intermediate level.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; strong time‑management and organizational abilities.
