Role Overview

The Manager of Certification and Training Development is responsible for the strategy, execution and operational management of SWANA’s education portfolio. This role supports the organization in delivering high-impact, high-volume educational programming that drives member value, customer engagement, and revenue growth. The Manager will lead the planning, coordination, and delivery of both virtual and in-person events.

What You ll Do:

Program Strategy & Execution

  • Design, plan, and deliver a robust calendar of educational offerings, including webinars, workshops, regional trainings and signature events.
  • Manage speaker recruitment, session logistics and post-event evaluations to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Manage a regular schedule of updates to existing courses and training.
  • Develop new products and formats that respond to industry needs and generate sustainable revenue.

Audience Engagement & Growth

  • Develop and lead strategies to increase participation across member segments, industry partners and targeted customer groups.
  • Build and leverage chapter and volunteer networks to expand reach and localize offerings.
  • Use data and feedback to continuously refine programs, improve learner satisfaction and financial performance.

Operations & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate program records in SWANA systems, ensuring data integrity and reporting accuracy.
  • Oversee and manage registration, CPE tracking and learner communications.
  • Prepare reports, dashboards, and presentations for internal and board use.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with membership to integrate education into recruitment, retention and engagement strategies.
  • Work closely with marketing to position education as a core value driver, ensuring strong promotion and brand alignment.
  • Contribute to an overall culture of teamwork and accountability at SWANA.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor s degree in Education Technology, Instructional Design, Adult/Continuing Education or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in continuing education, learning and development, digital learning, event planning or association management.
  • Knowledge of Instructional Design software such as Articulate.
  • Experience operating a Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Proven track record of managing high-volume educational programs with measurable outcomes.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a small team environment.
  • Familiarity and comfort with both strategic planning and hands-on execution.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external stakeholders.
  • Customer service orientation with a focus on member value and satisfaction.
  • Data-driven mindset with experience tracking participation, revenue and engagement metrics, and using insights to refine strategy, identify growth opportunities or pivot programming as needed.
  • Familiarity with environmental, sustainability, or waste management topics is a plus.
  • Must be based in the Washington D.C. area.
  • Willingness to travel (under 25%).
