resource conservation and energy management specialist hickory annex

this position, under the direction of the director of facilities management, will be responsible for all aspects of the strategic planning and implementation of the hcps resource conservation program, energy management and sustainability program for all buildings in the school system including the training development, implementation, and monitoring of all programs. This position will include developing appropriate procedures and behavior management related to resource conservation and energy management.

  • this is a grant funded assignment.
  • grant funded assignments will be in effect as stipulated in the grant. Assignment continuation is contingent upon available grant funding.
  • this is a 1-year grant funded assignment to be in effect from october 1, 2026 through june 30, 2027 unless grant is renewed.
essential duties and responsibilities may include

  • develops, plans, and coordinates the implementation of an energy management program designed to promote efficient energy usage, consumption, and associated costs for the school system.
  • establishes benchmarking data and develops long-term strategic energy portfolios and net zero planning.
  • monitors utility consumption and energy efficiency trends, identifies areas of excessive usage and makes appropriate recommendations to all hcps employees for the purposes of optimizing system-wide utility costs.
  • determines quantities and authorizes procurement of supplies, materials, and services for operation functions; monitors budgets in a variety of categories.
  • serves as the chairperson of the hcps sustainability committee.
  • assists designated staff in developing training programs for facilities and custodial personnel to maintain buildings at an optimal level.
  • provides project management and supervision to a wide variety of projects related to operational efficiency.
  • prepares bid documents, contract documents, and requisitions; works closely with the purchasing department regarding the purchase of supplies, materials, equipment, and contracted services.
  • interviews and assists with the selection and evaluation of technical/craft personnel or contractors as assigned.
  • works with the director of facilities management to implement policies and procedures; to be involved in all aspects of the facilities management department related to resource conservation and energy management.
  • develops cost estimates for materials and the labor needed to accomplish individual projects.
  • provides recommendations and information to the director of facilities management regarding all aspects of the department as it relates to the areas of responsibility.
  • communicates with professional and technical personnel such as architects and engineers.
  • assists in the scheduling and planning of necessary work or training for all hcps buildings.
  • interacts with all levels of administration, custodial, and other employees within the system.
  • provides leadership and staff development for department staff.
  • performs other work-related duties as assigned.
salary
  • this is a twelve-month position. Salary range based on the fy  ahcatsp salary schedule for non-certificated administrative, technical and supervisory professionals. Starting salary: $96,196.
