Science Communications Specialist Federal Science and Program Communications Position Overview
Our firm is seeking a Science Communications Specialist to support a federal program responsible for communicating complex scientific and policy information to internal stakeholders, government leadership, and the public.
The ideal candidate will have strong writing and editing skills and the ability to translate technical or scientific information into clear, accessible communications products. This role supports development of digital content, publications, and communications strategies supporting a national research program.
Work LocationRemote or hybrid depending on project needs.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and edit communications products explaining program initiatives and research activities
- Draft written materials including reports, fact sheets, website content, and briefing materials
- Support development of communications plans and messaging strategies
- Translate complex technical information into plain language for broader audiences
- Maintain and update digital content and web communications materials
- Support development of publications and communications products supporting scientific programs
- Coordinate communications efforts across program teams and stakeholders
- Ensure communications products meet accessibility and quality standards
- Minimum 5 years of communications, public affairs, or science communications experience
- Strong professional writing and editing experience
- Experience developing communications materials for technical or scientific audiences
- Experience with digital communications platforms and web content development
- Strong organizational and project coordination skills
- Experience supporting federal programs or research organizations
- Experience developing communications materials related to science, environmental policy, or public programs
- Familiarity with digital communications tools, content management systems, or data visualization tools
- Familiarity with accessibility standards for digital communications
