Location: Silver Spring, MD
Schedule: Full-Time
Salary Range: $65,000-$90,000 annually
Experience: 3-5 years of communications experience

The Sisters of Mercy of the Americas is seeking a Communications Coordinator to join our Justice Team and help build an engaged audience around issues of justice, advocacy, and the Mercy mission.
This is an opportunity for a strong communicator who can take complex policy and advocacy information and turn it into clear, compelling content that informs, engages, and inspires action
. The Communications Coordinator will develop and implement communications strategies, create content across multiple platforms, and help expand the Justice Team's reach and engagement with diverse audiences.
Working as part of a dynamic, collaborative team, this role will help build our justice audience and develop resources that encourage deeper engagement with the Sisters of Mercy, associates and companions, Institute departments, ministries, and external partners.
What You'll Do- Develop and execute communications strategies that support Justice Team priorities, advocacy initiatives, campaigns, and engagement efforts.
- Create and manage content across multiple channels, including email, newsletters, social media, websites, toolkits, and other communications materials.
- Translate complex policy, legislative, and advocacy topics into clear, accessible, and compelling messaging for diverse audiences.
- Develop and maintain communications calendars aligned with campaigns, legislative actions, and key engagement opportunities.
- Collaborate closely with the Institute Communications team to ensure consistent messaging, branding, and communications practices.
- Support audience outreach by using segmentation and data to tailor communications and strengthen engagement.
- Track and analyze communication performance, including engagement, reach, and action rates, and use results to improve future communications.
- Support education, advocacy, public engagement, and solidarity efforts related to the Justice Team's priorities.
- Facilitate awareness and engagement around the Sisters of Mercy's Critical Concerns, including Earth, immigration, nonviolence, racism, and women, as well as emerging legislative and social justice issues.
- Build and maintain relationships with internal teams, working groups, committees, and external organizations with shared purposes.
- Collaborate with team members to develop goals, materials, timelines, and strategies that advance the work of justice.
- Contribute to a team environment grounded in collaboration, learning, social analysis, theological reflection, and the Mercy tradition.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field and/or 3-5 years of relevant communications experience.
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences.
- Experience developing and managing multi-channel communications strategies and content calendars.
- Experience creating communications for digital platforms, including social media, email, web, or newsletters.
- Ability to translate complex information into clear, accessible, and engaging content.
- Ability to use data and communication metrics to evaluate effectiveness and improve engagement.
- Strong organizational, project management, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and projects in a dynamic team environment.
- Experience supporting advocacy, legislative engagement, public policy, or social justice campaigns.
