The IACUC Coordinator II provides technical and administrative coordination for the White Oak Animal Program (WOAP) Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), supporting regulatory compliance, protocol management, and program oversight.
Protocol Management & Review- Manage the full lifecycle of Animal Study Protocol (ASP) submissions — from administrative pre-review through approval — coordinating with investigators, veterinarians, IACUC members, and the IACUC Chair to ensure accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance.
- Advise investigators and committee members on applicable regulations and guidelines, including the Animal Welfare Act, PHS Policy, AVMA Euthanasia Guidelines, and the ILAR Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.
- Prepare and distribute monthly meeting materials, record and summarize committee deliberations, and ensure meeting minutes and IACUC actions are documented and communicated to relevant parties in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate, complete IACUC records and files, including protocol tracking databases (e.g., File Maker), animal census data, and compliance investigation documentation.
- Prepare and maintain regulatory submissions and programmatic reports, including USDA reports, OLAW Assurance, AAALACi Program Description and Annual Report, and semi-annual program reviews.
- Manage ongoing correspondence with USDA, OLAW, and AAALACi; assist with Animal Welfare Council (AWC) Data Calls and FOIA requests as needed.
- Develop, coordinate, and conduct PAM activities, including scheduling observations, performing laboratory visits and protocol assessments, and maintaining records. Provide PAM reports to the IACUC and for inclusion in programmatic documentation.
- Manage animal user registration and training compliance (e.g., CITI), maintain training records for all WOAP participants, and provide IACUC orientation for new committee members.
- Develop, review, and update IACUC SOPs, policies, guidelines, and forms to improve and standardize workflows.
- Coordinate semi-annual animal facility and laboratory inspections; assist in maintaining the WOAP web page.
Reports directly to the DVS IACUC Administrator and WOAP Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR).
Additional Duties- Prepare new and updated IACUC guidelines, policies, and procedures as needed.
- Education: B.S. in Biology, Animal Science, or a related discipline preferred;
High School diploma or GED required. - Experience: Minimum 3 years of IACUC office or directly related experience (e.g., PAM, compliance), with demonstrated knowledge of the Animal Welfare Act, AVMA Guidelines, ILAR Guide, PHS Policy, and USDA regulations.
- Certifications: CPIA eligibility preferred; LATG certification preferred or must be obtained within 1 year of hire.

Proficiency in IACUC database tools (e.g., File Maker), Microsoft Office Suite, and standard PC applications required. - Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams, including researchers, veterinarians, and regulatory bodies.
