Researcher
Represent Women is a leading organization dedicated to improving women's political representation in the United States. We advance evidence-based, systemic reforms that help more women run, win, and lead. Our work includes research, advocacy, and collaboration with changemakers committed to breaking down structural barriers to women's political leadership.
We are a national, remote-first organization headquartered in Silver Spring, MD, with occasional travel to our Silver Spring office, conferences, and organizational events required. The Researcher will report to the Research Director and collaborates closely with our team.
The Researcher supports Represent Women's research agenda by conducting high-quality qualitative and/or quantitative research aligned with the organization's goals. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a demonstrated commitment to advancing women's political representation. Responsibilities include research design, literature reviews, interviews, data collection and analysis, writing, editing, and research product development. The Researcher may also support junior research staff, fellows, or interns.
Collaborate with the Research Director on project design, planning, and execution.
Participate in weekly team meetings to review progress, share updates, and address questions.
Support junior researchers, fellows, and interns with guidance, proofreading, and quality review.
Assist with measurement and evaluation activities.
Utilize project management tools like Click Up and Google Workspace to track tasks and timelines effectively.
Build expertise on structural reforms that impact women's political representation, including ranked choice voting and related system-level interventions.
Conduct data collection, management, analysis, and visualization.
Perform literature reviews, interviews, and produce high-quality written research materials.
Author and co-author blogs, op-eds, reports, and academic articles.
Participate in seminars, workshops, and research-related events.
Coordinate with Communications to disseminate research products to relevant audiences.
Develop and maintain relationships with researchers, academics, and partner organizations.
Participate in partner calls, events, and collaborative projects.
Attend relevant conferences such as the American Political Science Association, the American Democracy Summit, or the National Conference of State Legislatures.
Coordinate with the organization to ensure research products support partner engagement and organizational events, including the Democracy Solutions Summit and Women's Power Collaborative sessions.
Respond to internal research requests, including fact-checking and brief data searches.
Contribute weekly content to internal communications, such as Weekend Reading.
Proofread communications materials as needed.
Assist with preparation and support for Represent Women-hosted events.
Master's degree or Bachelor's degree with relevant experience (political science, gender studies, public policy, law, etc.).
3+ years of research experience (qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods).
Demonstrated ability to complete research projects (academic or professional).
Strong writing, analytical, and data interpretation skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects with strong attention to detail.
Experience working collaboratively on a diverse team.
Comfort working in a small, evolving organizational environment.
Commitment to gender equality and systemic political reform.
Experience with academic publishing or journal submissions.
Background in gender equality, democracy reform, election science, or political systems.
Knowledge of ranked choice voting or proportional RCV.
Experience with data visualization tools such as Infogram.
Comfort working in a remote-first, collaborative environment.
Salary Range: $60,000-$75,000, plus benefits and a generous time-off package.
