Overview

ICON is seeking a Research Technician II to join the Wound Infection Department (WID) at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR). This role supports a multidisciplinary research program focused on understanding the immunopathogenesis of combat-related wound infections and developing effective medical countermeasures across the continuum of injury care. The Research Technician II will contribute to microbiological, immunological, and animal-model studies of trauma-related infections, support protocol and proposal development, and advance research targeting military-relevant pathogens, including ESKAPEE organisms.

Responsibilities
  • Perform animal surgical techniques and rodent handling including anesthesia, euthanasia, blood and other tissue collection, bacterial infections.
  • Perform SC, IP and IV injections of therapeutics
  • May perform/assist with studies related to trauma-related bacterial infections, including but not limited to bacterial culture, biofilm formation assay, antibiotic sensitivity test, in vitro antimicrobial tests.
  • Conduct/assist with immunological/physiological tests including cytokine/chemokine assessment, immune cell analysis and evaluation of healing.
  • Keep accurate and complete records of research done in accordance with applicable standards.
  • Submit reports and data summaries as requested and prepare research results for presentation and publication in the scientific literature.
  • Participate on proposal writing projects when requested.
  • Provide all job-related progress reports/technical reports as requested.
  • Maintain a safe workplace ensuring that he/she is aware of and observes appropriate safety and occupational health rules and regulations.
  • Performs light duties and other related duties as required and assigned.
  • Weekend or night work may be required on a periodic basis.
Minimum Qualifications

Citizenship: Must be a US citizen or Green Card holder and lived in the U.S. three out of the last five years.

Clearance: NACI

Education: B.S. in appropriate discipline (e.g., microbiology, molecular biology, medical technology and/or animal models).

Experience:

  • Must have experience with microbiology of bacterial pathogens.
  • Experience with antibacterial development is a plus.
  • Proficiency in basic laboratory techniques and mathematics skills is required.
  • Must have ability to perform work at a high level of accuracy and maintain detailed records of research.
  • Computer skills and experience with relevant software including MS Office, Graph Pad Prism and molecular biology software.
