Summary Description
:
Under direction, performs skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of a variety of electrical systems and equipment. Work involves responsibility for performing a variety of electrical tasks in accordance with standard practices of the electrical trade. Assignments are made either orally or through written work orders and may be accompanied by diagrams or blueprints. Work is often performed independently subject to inspection for compliance with instructions and conformity with accepted safety standards.
Supervision may be exercised over one or more helpers. Physical Demands:
Ability to lift items weighing up to 100 pounds, work from ladders or scaffolding, work in inclement weather and other adverse conditions. Special Requirements:
Ability to respond to emergency calls at any time and to work occasional overtime. Successful completion of the MCPS Electrical written (knowledge) and skills (demonstration) tests at the minimum or higher required score.
Various locations:
Midcounty, Down county. A written and/or hands on assessment may be given. The wage range for this position is between $27.67 and $40.00 per hour, based on years of service. For information about benefits, please follow the link below:

- Successful completion of the MCPS Electrical written (knowledge) and skills (demonstration) tests at the minimum or higher required score.
- Considerable knowledge of principles, practices, methods, and equipment of engineering work materials, and tools of the electrical trade; considerable knowledge of a wide variety of electrical fixtures and equipment common to school use; working knowledge of local and national electrical codes.
- Knowledge of mathematics and engineering formulas; knowledge of county, state, and federal laws, codes, and regulations related to engineering work.
- Ability to complete work in a safe and efficient manner. Ability to supervise helpers.
- Ability to understand and interpret construction and maintenance-related data; apply basic engineering principles; attention to detail; and ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to locate and adjust defects in electrical systems and equipment; ability to follow electrical diagrams in the installation or maintenance of electrical equipment systems.
- Skill in the use and care of hand and power tools of the trade.
- Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
Three years experience in the performance of skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of a variety of electrical equipment and high amperage electrical systems, or completion of a recognized apprenticeship in the trade. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience equivalent to an Associate’s degree, which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.
Certificate License:
Possession of a valid Maryland noncommercial class C driver’s license, or equivalent.
