Fire Alarm System Technician
Valiant is looking for a Fire Alarm System Technician to join our team! The Fire Alarm/Fire Suppression System performs a variety of fire alarm trade functions such as the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and inspection of campus smoke and fire suppression systems. Work includes but is not limited to the following:
- Performing the installation, repair, and inspection of smoke and fire suppress ions systems.
- Applying / executing competent inspection / testing principals.
- Repairing fire alarm wiring, fire alarm panels and peripheral equipment.
- Identifying hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair; inspection, repair or replacement of any smoke / heat detectors and sprinkler heads.
- Repairing and testing dry / wet systems.
- Testing fire alarm systems using appropriate diagnostic programs and equipment.
- Performing smoke detector sensitivity procedure.
- Performing testing on fire pumps and standpipe systems.
- Knowledge of applicable building codes, regulations or ordinances.
- Performing other general building maintenance as assigned.
- Working from blueprints, drawings, layouts, or self-generated work plans.
- Locating and diagnosing trouble in the fire alarm systems and / or related equipment.
- Ability to use a variety of hand / power tools as well as measuring and testing instrumentation.
- Directly communicate with management, teammates and customers in the form of, meetings, face-to-face, presentations etc.
- Troubleshooting equipment, performing project take-off's and solicits quotations in support of procurement process.
- Establishes applicable requirements, standards, and regulations to be followed / met during course of work performance and ensures all parties involved are in full compliance during work performance.
- Executes scheduled and unscheduled all tasking in timely manner with a strong focus on quality.
- Solicits requests for quotes in support of procurement process.
- Performs maintenance on all types of fire alarm system equipment.
- He / she will have the ability to communicate complex communication / equipment repair and / or replacement projects, intricate maintenance schedules, work plans, SOWs, and detailed cost estimates and will serve as the point of contact for work control.
- Will work closely with chief engineer and project manager ensuring all records and documentation are kept up-to-date / current.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements:
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or three years related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must hold NICET (Level I, II, or III) certification (preferred) and be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily.
Qualifications:
- Experience with fire alarm system tasking (maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting and repair). Experience with healthcare and / or research facilities is a plus. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Must have strong understanding of fire alarm system theory.
- Must be versed in current codes and standard practices. Knowledgeable of NFPA standards (specifically NFPA 70 and 72) a plus.
- 5+ years' experience in commercial / industrial facilities.
- Should present solid fundamental understanding of maintenance, troubleshooting and repair principles.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to facilitate all physical requirements specific to this scope of work successfully.
- The duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
- The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Must be able to work in a sitting position for 8 or more hours per day.
- Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds on a regular basis and up to 50 pounds as needed.
- Must be able to travel to job locations by automobile.
- Must be able to work in a safe and efficient manner.

- Report all hazards, potential hazards or dangerous situations, including damaged or mislaid personal protective equipment to your Supervisor or Safety Representative.
- Report Environmental impacts, anything that results in a change to the Environment as a result of Valiant's activities, products or services.
- Participate in the achievement of Valiant's QHSE objectives and targets, both those at departmental and company level.
