Job Title:
Field Technician – Sewer Flow Monitoring and Utility Infrastructure

Job Description

This role focuses on installing, calibrating, and maintaining sewer flow monitors and rainfall monitoring equipment, as well as collecting and validating field data that supports water and wastewater infrastructure projects. You will work primarily in the field as part of a small team, often alongside a expereinced field representative, performing hands‑on tasks in outdoor and confined‑space environments. The position offers structured safety training, ongoing technical development, and clear pathways for growth, including opportunities for recent graduates to progress into leadership roles after gaining field experience.

Responsibilities

  • Install flow monitors within sewer lines according to established quality and safety procedures.
  • Install and set up rainfall monitoring equipment at designated locations.
  • Calibrate flow monitors to ensure accurate measurement and reliable data collection.
  • Collect sewer flow and rainfall data on a regular basis and review it for accuracy and completeness.
  • Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain flow monitors and rainfall gauges to ensure continuous performance.
  • Inspect manholes manually and with telemonitoring equipment to locate, access, and assess infrastructure.
  • Conduct flow isolations, smoke testing, dye water flooding, and site inspections to identify inflow, infiltration, and other system conditions.
  • Identify and document water and wastewater infrastructure, including manholes, utilities, and service meters, using field tools and GPS equipment.
  • Maintain accurate, legible, and organized records in accordance with all quality work instructions and company standards.
  • Use basic computer applications, including Windows-based systems and Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word, for data entry and reporting.
  • Follow all safety protocols for confined space entry and be prepared to assist with rescue operations when necessary.
  • Collaborate with team members in the field to achieve daily productivity targets and complete work on schedule.
  • Communicate clearly with supervisors and team members, ask questions when needed, and proactively address issues encountered in the field.
  • Participate in safety, first aid, CPR, and technical training sessions and apply this training consistently in daily work.
  • Demonstrate reliability by arriving on time, maintaining readiness to travel to job sites, and completing assigned tasks with minimal supervision.

Essential Skills

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel to and from job sites.
  • Good mechanical skills and comfort working with tools and equipment in the field.
  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to use Windows-based operating systems and Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word for tasks such as data entry.
  • Manual dexterity and willingness to perform hands‑on work in outdoor and confined‑space environments.
  • Physical and cognitive ability to perform confined space entry and support rescue operations when necessary.
  • Ability to function effectively in a team environment and contribute to achieving daily productivity targets.
  • Willingness to travel to various job sites and work in the physical conditions present in sewer systems, including dirty and confined areas.
  • Commitment to fostering and maintaining a strong safety culture in all aspects of the work.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, punctuality, and a self‑starting attitude, with a willingness to get dirty and ask questions.
  • Comfort working outdoors in varying weather conditions, including hot and cold environments.
  • Ability to perform basic functions in Excel, particularly accurate and timely data entry.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Recent graduates in Environmental Science or a related field are welcome and can be developed into management roles after a minimum of one year of field experience.
  • Expereince in utility locating, construction, surveying, GPS mapping, or military field experience is preferred.
  • Experience with utility location services, GPS-based mapping, or identifying water and wastewater infrastructure in the field is highly beneficial.
  • Basic knowledge of electronics is helpful for working with monitoring equipment.
  • Experience with flow meters, water infrastructure, utilities, sewer systems, water treatment, or wastewater operations is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with using GPS equipment and mapping tools in field environments is preferred.
  • First Aid and CPR certific
