Our staff support many of the operational missions that monitor the heartbeat of our planet through a growing number of Earth Observing System of Systems platforms and direct field research.

We also research and investigate leading-edge observing technologies and assist in their integration into operations.

STC is seeking candidates to hire a Verification Engineer (Quality Assurance) to support the National Weather Service (NWS) on the AWIPS Application Environment contract. AWIPS (Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System) is the mission‑critical platform used by forecasters at National Weather Service sites nationwide to analyze environmental data and issue the forecasts, watches, and warnings that help protect lives and property.

As a Verification Engineer, you will support human-level validations associated with Gen‑AI led test‑driven design processes. Your primary responsibility will be to help ensure that AI-generated outputs are thoroughly evaluated and consistently align with established system expectations. You will collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams to identify discrepancies, analyze results, and support validation strategies that help maintain system integrity and reliability.

This role requires strong attention to detail and an interest in quality assurance, testing, and modern software development practices. The successful candidate will work within a collaborative Agile environment supporting operational weather systems and AI-assisted development workflows.

Specific duties will include:

  • Support human-level validations for Gen‑AI led test‑driven design processes.
  • Ensure AI‑generated outputs consistently align with system expectations.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to refine and validate AI‑driven solutions.
  • Identify and report discrepancies between AI outputs and desired system behaviors.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of verification methodologies and tools.
  • Assist with developing and executing test cases and validation activities.
  • Support troubleshooting and analysis of system behaviors and validation results.
  • Document testing procedures, validation outcomes, and identified issues.
  • Participate in Agile development activities including sprint planning, reviews, and team collaboration.
  • Support operational weather systems utilized within the National Weather Service forecasting enterprise.
  • Paid Time Off Starting at 80 hrs/yr, 11 Federal holidays, and 56 hrs/yr Sick Leave
  • 401(k) with up to 4% employer matching contribution
  • Flexible spending account
  • Health savings account
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 2–4 years of experience in quality assurance, software testing, validation, or related technical work.
  • Familiarity with QA/testing methodologies and validation processes.
  • Experience supporting or participating in test‑driven development activities is preferred.
  • Familiarity with automated testing tools or software validation tools is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of AI‑assisted development or AI‑generated outputs is preferred.
  • Familiarity with version control systems such as Git.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.

Strong attention to detail and ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Desired Experience
  • Experience working in Agile software development environments.
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and modern development workflows.
  • Familiarity with issue tracking and collaboration tools such as Jira or Confluence.
  • Experience analyzing datasets and troubleshooting system behaviors.
  • Familiarity with cloud‑based environments or AWS is a plus.
  • Experience supporting federal or mission‑critical systems is preferred.
