Painting & Coatings EstimatorThis position is responsible for reviewing project documents, preparing accurate estimates, identifying project risks, and developing complete and competitive proposals for commercial, industrial, government, and public‑works painting and coatings projects.
The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, organized, and comfortable managing multiple estimates and deadlines. A strong understanding of painting, protective coatings, surface preparation, labor production, and construction documents is essential.

Primary Responsibilities- Review plans, specifications, addenda, bid forms, schedules, and contract requirements.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for painting, specialty coatings, wall coverings, and related scopes of work.
- Prepare labor, material, equipment, travel, and subcontractor cost estimates.
- Use RSMeans cost data to develop, validate, and compare labor, material, and equipment pricing.
- Evaluate surface preparation requirements and specified coating systems.
- Identify scope gaps, exclusions, clarifications, alternates, allowances, and potential project risks.
- Attend pre‑bid meetings and conduct jobsite visits when necessary.
- Submit requests for information and coordinate bid‑related questions with general contractors, owners, architects, manufacturers, and suppliers.
- Obtain and evaluate material, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.
- Prepare clear, complete, and competitive proposals.
- Maintain estimating files, historical pricing, production rates, and project information.
- Track bid invitations, proposal deadlines, addenda, and follow‑up activities.
- Use Procore for bid management, document control, project communication, and project handoff.
- Assist with project handoff meetings after contract award.
- Work closely with project managers and field leadership to compare estimated and actual project performance.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, suppliers, manufacturers, and industry partners.
- Experience estimating commercial, industrial, government, or public‑works painting and coatings projects.
- Strong understanding of painting systems, protective coatings, surface preparation, and application methods.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and bid documents.
- Experience completing digital takeoffs and preparing detailed cost estimates.
- Experience using RSMeans or comparable construction cost data.
- Experience using Procore or a comparable construction management platform.
- Strong mathematical, analytical, organizational, and time‑management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple estimates and meet firm bid deadlines.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and standard office software.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to attend job walks and pre‑bid meetings.
- Experience with digital takeoff and estimating software.
- Advanced experience using RSMeans cost data for estimate development and cost validation.
- Familiarity with federal, state, municipal, military, or public‑works contracting.
- Knowledge of AMPP/SSPC surface‑preparation standards and protective‑coating specifications.
- Experience estimating lead, asbestos, or other hazardous‑coating remediation work.
- Familiarity with prevailing‑wage requirements, certified payroll, bonding, and government bid forms.
- Field experience in the painting and coatings industry.
Final compensation will be based on relevant experience, industry knowledge, estimating capabilities, and overall qualifications.
