Description:
OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY This classification requires to identify, evaluate, interpret, and document findings of Non-Destructive Test (NDT) results for structures, assemblies, systems, components, materials, and parts for compliance to applicable specifications and drawings. Perform required calibration and preventative maintenance (PM) of Non-Destructive Test support equipment. Knowledge of computer skills to perform work. WORK PERFORMED Independently set up, maintain, and operate the equipment and processes to perform inspection operations using visual, magnetic particle, and/or dye penetrant testing.
Determine inspection method and appropriate inspection techniques based upon applicable and supporting documentation, drawings, and engineering provided information. Identify, interpret, and analyze results based upon acceptance criteria. Record data working from sketches, drawings, test procedures, blueprints, and other engineering information. Assist engineering and Level III Examiner in developing inspection procedures, specifications, and techniques specific to local needs and demands. Process and complete necessary disposition and documentation for acceptance or rejection of parts or materials.
Maintain solutions to accepted standards. Be responsible for setting drying ovens at proper temperatures, the amount of time of immersion in penetrant, drying time, and amount washing required. Level I NDT Inspectors will have basic skills, ability to follow written instructions, do basic calibrations on equipment, and still working under the direct supervision of certified Level II and Level III Technicians.
Level I technicians are not signing off on any code related work or evaluating accept/reject for components. A Level II NDT Inspector will be able to work without direct supervision. They are able to calibrate, inspect, interpret, and evaluate findings for determining accept or reject of the components being inspected. Level II will be responsible for providing training for Level I inspectors, with Level III oversight.
Perform inspections on rocket motors, small ordnance items and miscellaneous hardware. May be required to become certified in and perform other inspection functions. Annotate processing documentation as necessary. PAC Only:
Perform inspections functions for non-Production partnership (P2) Operations. Inspect for proper completion of documentation. Perform blueprint review of support equipment being altered.
Basic Qualifications:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED Level I requires documentation of formal training and OJT with certified Level II personnel when performing Level II inspections in various methods. Level II requires NAS
410 certifications, or equivalent, of NDT test methods. In order to progress from a Level I to a Level II NDT Inspector, must have recorded the required minimum hours of on-the-job training with a Level II or III Inspector. Must have a thorough understanding of the NDT inspection procedures and manufacturing process of vehicle structures, assemblies, systems, components, materials, and parts.
Must possess knowledge of safety criteria and NDT theory, principles, technical analysis, and techniques. Ability to organize and report test results. Ability to maintain required licenses and certifications to operate handling and support equipment necessary to perform job tasks. Ability to successfully pass formal test on nondestructive techniques, inspections, and analyses. Ability to successfully pass practical demonstration of efficiency/proficiency in performing Level II inspection functions.
Skilled in the use of computers and ability to learn new computer applications. Ability to qualify for and maintain certifications/qualifications and/or licenses to perform assigned duties. Ability to meet and maintain the requirements of the Personal Reliability Program (PRP), as applicable. Ability to pass pre-employment physical and drug screen.
