About the Role:

An OB/GYN diagnostic medical sonographer specializes in women's health. This position will operate ultrasound equipment to image the female reproductive system and monitor fetal development during pregnancy. This position works closely with obstetricians and gynecologists to detect abnormalities, track fetal growth, and support reproductive healthcare.

Responsibilities:

Fetal Development Tracking:
Conduct routine and high-risk obstetric scans to evaluate fetal anatomy, estimate gestational age, measure amniotic fluid, and monitor growth milestones.

Gynecological Imaging:
Perform transabdominal and transvaginal ultrasounds to image the reproductive organs, adnexas, and document both normal and abnormal findings. Obtain accurate and complete diagnostic-quality images and measurements for provider review.

Patient Communication:
Guide expectant parents through the imaging process, explaining what they see on the screen while maintaining a professional boundaries regarding diagnoses.

Clinical Reporting:
Identify fetal anomalies, structural variations, or maternal complications. Differentiate between healthy and pathological structures, compile preliminary findings, and compile detailed preliminary reports for the OB/GYN physician for official diagnosis

Patient Care:
Review medical histories, explain procedures, address patient questions, and position individuals for optimal scanning while ensuring comfort

Image Acquisition:
Operate ultrasound machinery to obtain quality images.

Equipment Maintenance:
Clean and sanitize exam rooms, sterilize equipment, perform routine calibration, and maintain compliance with safety rules.

Skills:

Mastery of transvaginal probe protocols, pelvic anatomy, fetal biometry, ultrasound technologies

High emotional intelligence to handle sensitive situations (such as pregnancy loss)
Active listening, strong verbal communication, empathy, and physical stamina to handle equipment and assist patients

Excellent communication skills for enthusiastic expectant families

Extensive knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and sonographic physics

Abilities:

Ability to maintain professionalism and composure in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to handle sensitive information and situations with confidentiality and discretion.

Ability to work independently and part of a team.

Ability to adapt to changes in schedule and office needs.

Ability to communicate with staff, patients, and provider ENVIRONMENTAL /

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed in an office environment. Involves frequent contact with staff, patients, and the public. Work may be stressful tact may involve dealing with angry or upset people.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
Work may require hand dexterity for office machine operation, stooping and bending to files and supplies, mobility to complete errands or deliveries, or sitting for extended periods of time. Manual dexterity for using a calculator or computer keyboard. Be able to lift up to 30 pounds.

Required Qualifications:

Associate or bachelor’s degree in diagnostic medical sonography or an accredited postsecondary certificate program

Certification: ARDMS OB/GYN Certified (American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer)
Maintain eligibility for ARDMS certification – Provide evidence on Continuing Education credits to fulfill accreditation requirements.

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Knowledge of HIPPA regulations and patient confidentiality

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in EHR and practice management systems. Such as Athena Health, eClinical

Works, EPIC or Mod Med.

Able to communicate in Spanish.

Knowledge of Medical Terminology Experience in OB/GYN medical specialty.
2 years of experience performing OB/GYN Ultrasound examinations
