Overview

The primary responsibilities of the veterinarian are in direct support of the US Navy Marine Mammal Program and include providing clinical care in cases of illness, injury, or disease to marine mammals. This position is part time, defined as a FTE position, approximately 667 hours annually. Hours are guaranteed, but variable with schedule determined quarterly. Requested coverage will likely be no less than 2-3 days in a row, up to several consecutive weeks.

Shifts will include a combination of clinical hours on site with 24hrs of on-call coverage. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • During scheduled coverage, will carry out primary on-call veterinary responsibility at the assigned Navy location under the direction of the primary veterinarian.
  • Will execute emergent, urgent, and preventative health care needs to marine mammals in line with the marine mammal medicine program mission.
  • Will be on call for all scheduled coverage days - 24hrs on-call coverage.
  • Requested coverage will be no less than 2 days in a row and up to several consecutive weeks.
  • Coverage schedule will be determined quarterly.

Requirements
  • Must be graduates of an AVMA accredited veterinary college or ECFVG certified institution and have a valid U.S. license
  • Must be U.S. citizens and have the ability to obtain a secret clearance
  • Ability to carry 40 pounds, remain on feet for extended periods of time, and be comfortable working in pier-side, boat-based, and marine environments year round
  • 5 years experience working with marine mammals, aquatic, or other non-domestic species preferred.
