Fire Alarm & Electronic Systems Technician

The Technician, Fire Alarm & Electronic Systems installs, maintains, programs, troubleshoots, and repairs a wide range of fire alarm, detection, suppression, and electronic systems at Naval Base Kitsap. This position requires strong technical knowledge of low-voltage electronics, alarm systems, and integration with various fire protection and communication networks in accordance with applicable codes and standards.

Essential Duties &

Job Functions:

  • Install, maintain, inspect, test, and repair fire alarm systems, including addressable and conventional configurations.
  • Work with related detection, suppression, and electronic systems such as wet/dry/pre-action sprinkler systems, deluge, foam, CO2, and dry chemical systems.
  • Troubleshoot, program, and modify system components including alarm panels, detectors, relays, and control modules.
  • Apply advanced technical knowledge to resolve complex problems where documentation may be incomplete or unavailable.
  • Perform maintenance-level programming and verification of system functions to ensure compliance with NFPA 72, NFPA 25, and other applicable standards.
  • Integrate and maintain related communication systems such as CCTV, audio amplifiers, telemetry, and fiber optic alarm networks.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics to determine proper system installation and repair methods.
  • Utilize complex testing instruments such as oscilloscopes, volt/ohm meters, pulse generators, and deviation meters.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior technicians as required.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reports for inspections, repairs, and testing in accordance with contract and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Proper use of tools and test equipment common to the fire alarm and electronics trade.
  • Timely completion, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness of assigned work.
  • Compliance with all safety, environmental, and industrial practices.
  • Professional, courteous conduct when interacting with team members, clients, and base personnel.
  • Adherence to all company policies, SOPs, and regulatory standards.

Job Requirements (Education, Experience, Professional Associations):

  • Mandatory:
    • Minimum 4 years of experience in electrical, electronics, or fire alarm/suppression systems.
    • Completion of 2 years of formal training in electronics or equivalent; one year of experience may substitute for one year of training.
    • Proficiency with radio transmitters, receivers, data processors, amplifiers, CCTV, and telemetry devices.
    • Working knowledge of NFPA, UFC, and other alarm codes.
    • Familiarity with fire suppression systems (wet, dry, deluge, foam, CO2, pre-action) and procedures to secure them for testing.
    • Ability to climb ladders, pull cables, and work in confined or elevated spaces.
    • Skilled in conduit installation (up to 1-inch), layout, cutting, and bending.
    • Strong ability to interpret schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation.
    • Valid Washington State driver's license and acceptable driving record.
    • Must provide and maintain personal hand tools of the trade.
    • Must meet company physical, safety, and security requirements, including respirator and clearance eligibility.
    • Must be a U.S. Citizen and pass required background checks and drug screenings.
    • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Preferred:
    • NIET Level III or higher certification in Fire Alarms.
    • State of Washington EL-06 Limited Energy Electricians License.
    • Experience with systems such as Notifier, Simplex, Fike, EST, Gamewell, or Fire Lite.
    • Working knowledge of programming logic or PLC-style system interfaces.
