After School Dyslexia Tutor​/K-12 Reading and Writing Tutor

Overview

Traverse Dyslexia is an educational services provider with clinics in Salem and Silverton. We are hiring one tutor for our Salem office
. Training begins in December, tutoring begins in January (exact dates are flexible).

We help dyslexic students learn to read, write, and spell, often after experiencing years of academic challenges. We use Orton-Gillingham methodology
, an evidence-based method for dyslexia remediation.

• Work with students and guide them through our custom scope and sequence, working with each student one-on-one for 50 minutes, twice a week year-round
• Identify challenges that students are facing, make notes, assess progress
• Review and reinforce areas of difficulty
• Communicate with the Director and Assistant Director about other concerns/progress

The dyslexia remediation scope and sequence is provided, and online training (with a paid stipend
) is also included. Tutor training includes a six month practicum
, which is undertaken while tutoring.

• Experience working with children/teens
• A love and appreciation for language, reading, and writing
• Patience, understanding, and enthusiasm for helping students build literacy skills
• An interest in the science of reading and writing
• Creative and effective behavioral management
  skills
• Ability to establish a solid rapport with students
• Ability to pass a background check

• 2025-26 school year: 2-6PM Mondays through Thursdays (required)
• July-August 2026: flexible schedule, but averaging 20-30 hours/week each month
• Training begins in February/March

Tutors are independent contractors, with a starting hourly rate of $25-30 based on education and experience. After the six month practicum period and training is completed, hourly rates increase. There is a $500 training stipend
.

Traverse Dyslexia is a limited liability company. Dawn Tacker is the director.

Students are first screened to identify dyslexia and/or establish a baseline.

Tutors implement the program as designed by the Director/Assistant Director. Most students will need 2-3 years to complete their dyslexia remediation program. We want tutors who are willing/able to work with students for the full length of their program, 2-3 years
. The director/assistant director will check in, observe, and do periodic assessments to track progress.
