Commodity Manager
Job Designation: The Commodity Manager will provide supplier selection leadership to the purchasing team, a key part of Supply Chain, in a low volume, high mix, manufacturing environment.
Location:
Parker Aerospace, Simi Valley, CA – Fire, Safety, and Power Division site.
- The Commodity Manager will lead all Procurement activities for New Product Introduction (NPI), working closely with Divisional Commodity Leads to enable right‑first‑time vendor selection in line with Parker terms & expectations (e.g. inventory solution, long‑term agreement).
- Lead early supplier involvement (ESI) and supplier selection for NPI programs.
- Responsible for purchase order placement, resolution of technical queries, program management through initial production prior to business as usual handover to Operational Buyers.
- Develop should‑cost/price targets and deliver NPI cost‑out commitments.
- Lead all Procurement activities in support of gate reviews and program milestone plans.
- Manage Request For Quote (RFQ) activities, to include new bids for existing work; work closely with the Divisional Commodity teams to align on any changes to strategy prior to requoting.
- Drive RFQ/RFP processes, negotiate commercial terms, and award business.
- Manage supplier capacity, lead times, PPAP/FAI readiness, and launch execution.
- Provide supply chain support and expertise for Drawing Changes, to include supply chain impact assessments, liaising with Operational Buyers to determine impact to vendor, inventory and work in progress, minimizing cost impact as required.
- Ensure thorough review and impact assessment on customer flow‑down requirements to vendors.
- Assist in enhancing the Procurement Excellence of the Operational Buyers, to include developing and implementing training plans in accordance with standard work and metrics.
- Support procedures and compliance.
- Support Supplier Development Manager on resolution of chronic supplier issues relating to operational performance.
- Education requirement:
Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain or a technical degree. - Year of experience: 10+ years in a Supply Chain related role in manufacturing, with demonstrated leadership experience.
- Aerospace industry experience is preferred.
- Experience with commodities such as raw material, fabrication, electronics, fasteners, machined parts and low cost countries.
- Working experience with SAP & MS Excel.
- Familiarity with the overall APICS Body of Knowledge (BOK) as it pertains to planning / procurement.
- Understanding of root cause analysis (RCA) and ability to participate in the process.
- Project Management Skills/certification, ideal but not required.
- Occasional travel to Supplier sites may be required.
- In-depth knowledge of MRP logic and standard planning/production workflow.
- Pay Range: $111,450 to $195,150 annually.
- Participation in Annual Incentive Program.
