POSITION SUMMARY

The Assistant Pool Manager supports the daily operations of a community pool, helping to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all patrons. Reporting to the Recreation Coordinator, the Assistant Pool Manager assists with recreational programs such as swim lessons, aquatic classes, and events. They also help supervise and mentor staff, including lifeguards and instructors, enforce safety regulations, and assist with administrative tasks like scheduling and program registrations.

The

Assistant Pool Manager plays a leadership role in the absence of the Pool Manager and/or Recreation Coordinator. Depending on the season, this position may work 10-35 hours per week. This role requires strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills, with a focus on safety and excellent customer service.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

Supervision and Leadership

  • Make independent decisions and take initiative without the need for prompting.
  • Assist in overseeing aquatics staff to ensure compliance with job responsibilities, training requirements, and established aquatics procedures.
  • Provide leadership and follow steps when the Emergency Action Plan is activated.
  • Model appropriate behavior, communication, and teamwork.
  • Maintain good public relations with participants and/or parents/guardians.

Administration and Operations

  • Supervise pool rental and program transitions, lane assignments, and overall pool usage.
  • Provide explanation, clarification, and reinforcement of pool policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Use RSRPD's CRM system (Amilia) to create new accounts, register participants for lap swim and aquatics classes, make changes/replacements to classes, process refunds, print rosters, and record attendance.
  • Report to the supervisor on the status of personnel, program, and maintenance conditions affecting the operation of the program and pool facilities in a timely manner.
  • Document any incidents and/or injuries and ensure that the Recreation Coordinator is informed.
  • Set up the pool according to the program and schedule for the day, including installing or removing lane lines, covering or uncovering the pool, and setting up or taking down flags.
  • Complete shift reports and closing checklists to document daily operations and secure the facility.

Safety and Maintenance

  • Administer First Aid and CPR/AED and advanced first aid in accordance with ARC Title 22 when needed.
  • Attend and actively participate in all required in-service trainings. Any missed in-service must be communicated to and approved by a supervisor in advance to be considered excused.
  • Keep the pool deck clean, free of debris, and clear of safety hazards and immediately notify the Recreation Coordinator of any hazards or necessary repairs.
  • Assist with minor repairs of aquatics equipment (ex: flags, lane lines)
  • Empty facility garbage cans and replace supplies in locker rooms as needed.

Other Duties

  • Maintain a clean and tidy workspace.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Education & Experience

  • Minimum 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED.
  • Two seasons as a Lifeguard and/or Swim Instructor preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to swim 200 yards in under four (4) minutes.
  • Ability to recognize and respond to emergencies using American Red Cross lifeguard surveillance and rescue techniques, completing rescues in under 90 seconds.
  • Strong judgment, problem-solving, and independent decision-making skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships.
  • Ability to perform basic math.

Certifications

  • Current Red Cross Lifeguard Certification (r.24).
  • Red Cross Title 22 (required within 6 months if applicable).
  • Valid CA Driver's License and proof of insurance if driving for the District.

Physical Requirements

This position requires frequent physical activity, including sitting, standing, walking, reaching, bending, kneeling, and climbing. The employee must handle objects, lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, and work continuously in and around water. Good visual acuity (including distance, peripheral, and low-light vision) and hearing in both ears are required. The role is performed outdoors and may involve exposure to sun, heat, and varying weather conditions.
