Qualifications- Experience working with students exhibiting behavioral, emotional, or executive functioning challenge
- Familiarity with restorative practices, trauma-informed care, and Multi‑Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)/Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
- Training in behavior intervention strategies, social‑emotional learning (SEL), or therapeutic supports
- Ability to build strong relationships with students and maintain a structured, supportive environment

To support students assigned behavioral supports, behavioral coaching, and restorative practices while reinforcing MTSS‑aligned behavioral and social‑emotional goals to promote reintegration into the classroom – may include general academic tutoring.
General DescriptionThe ISS Interventionist/Tutor is responsible for delivering academic and behavioral support to students assigned to in‑school suspension or loss of privilege. The role focuses on helping students remain engaged in academics, reflect on behavioral choices, and build the skills necessary for classroom success. This individual works closely with teachers, school counselors, and administrators to provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions within the MTSS framework and to monitor student progress related to behavioral and executive functioning goals.
PerformanceResponsibilities
- Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive in‑school suspension (ISS) environment with clear expectations and routines.
- Provide academic support to students in ISS or Loss of Privilege to ensure they stay current with classroom assignments and learning objectives.
- Implement behavior reflection and restorative activities as directed to support student growth and reintegration into the classroom.
- Collaborate with teachers and case managers to collect academic work and ensure alignment with current classroom instruction.
- Support the development of self‑regulation, emotional awareness, and positive decision‑making through coaching and direct instruction as directed.
- Use tools such as behavior logs, self‑monitoring checklists, and progress tracking sheets to document student growth and needs as directed.
- Foster positive student relationships by emphasizing accountability, respect, and support.
- Communicate regularly with school counselors, administrators, and families as appropriate to ensure continuity of supports.
- Oversee students who are in danger of failing a course in the form of “seat time”.
- Monitor students in areas such as the student center, hallways, and cafeteria when students are not assigned to ISS.
- Utilize and update a digital calendar to allow administrators to know when students are present in the ISS room.
- Perform any other duties as requested by the building administrator and/or department supervisor that align with the goals of the ISS program.
Salary and work year according to the tutor rate established by the Simsbury Board of Education.
EvaluationInterventionists report to and are evaluated by building administration.
