    General Description

    Working as part of the school's College and Career Readiness team, the Career Readiness Coordinator will develop systems to engage students in career-centered learning: including workshops to support students in learning about various careers and preparing to begin job shadows and internships, field trips to visit employers, and hosting alumni and community members who volunteer to speak with students about career exploration.

    This role requires ongoing collaboration with classroom teachers, school counselors, administrators, and support staff to align opportunities with student needs, monitor progress through multiple data sources, and make responsive adjustments to support student growth and access to career opportunities.

    Performance Responsibilities

    CAREER-RELATED LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES AT SHS

    • Create and implement a framework for student internships based on the needs of the community, students, and families
      • Build and update/maintain a website of resources for students, parents, and community businesses/organizations
        • Work in collaboration with SHS Capstone Coordinator to help support student opportunities for internships and school and community partnerships
        • Run periodic career preparation workshops for students (e.g. how to look for a job, working papers, interview strategies, workplace expectations, sanitizing social media, building a Linked In profile, etc.)
        • Help design SHS Connect lessons or other workshops for career-related VoG competency building
        • Collaborate with department supervisors to build out and articulate our Industry Recognized Credentials (IRCs) and Career Pathways
      • Expand the framework and continuously improve it based on feedback and outcomes
    Community Interaction/Networking
    • Create and implement a framework for student internships based on the needs of the community, students, and families
      • Create and distribute (in multiple formats) a community overview of ways business and non‑profit organizations can support student learning and development
        • Build and update/maintain a website of resources for students, parents, and community businesses/organizations
        • Organize career exploration workshops/job shadowing experiences and career panels for all students in a variety of career clusters, including health care, advanced manufacturing, law enforcement, municipal and emergency services, trades, and environmental careers.
        • Organize and host community networking event(s) each year to keep local volunteers and alumni connected to the school community
        • Schedule career-related panels, guest speakers, and career fairs
        • Build relationships with postsecondary trade schools and pre‑apprenticeship/apprenticeship opportunities
        • Build and maintain relationships with military recruiters
        • Attend workshops, webinars, and trainings offered by the state to enhance career readiness skills
    Internship Logistics
    • Stay up to date with state UELP and other legal requirements for students earning credit for activities beyond the school's walls
      • Match community mentors or worksite supervisors with interested students
        • Conference with students, parents, and worksite supervisors
        • Ensure appropriate paperwork is completed by students and employers for off-site work
        • Provide internship supervision to ensure students are progressing
        • Collect data from students, parents, and local employers to improve the program year to year
    Terms of Employment

    Salary and work year according to the negotiated contract with the Simsbury Board of Education
