The Ethel Walker School seeks compassionate, collaborative, and highly skilled Registered Nurses to join our Health Services team. This is an exceptional opportunity for nurses who enjoy building relationships with adolescents while practicing in a dynamic independent boarding and day school environment.
Available Positions- Weekday Afternoon/Evening Registered Nurse
- Option1:
Monday–Friday 12:00p.m.–7:00p.m.;
Overnight on‑call coverage Monday–Thursday - Option2 (Shared Position)
- RNA:
Two weekday shifts (12:00–7:00p.m.) plus two overnight on‑call shifts - RNB:
Three weekday shifts (12:00–7:00p.m.) plus two overnight on‑call shifts

The Registered Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care to boarding and day students while supporting the physical, emotional, and educational well‑being of adolescents. This role combines direct patient care, health education, emergency response, care coordination, and health record management within a collaborative school setting. Successful candidates demonstrate sound clinical judgment, strong communication skills, and a commitment to supporting students as they learn, grow, and thrive.
EssentialResponsibilities Student Health Care
- Assess, triage, and treat acute illnesses and injuries.
- Provide ongoing care for students with chronic health conditions.
- Develop and maintain individualized healthcare plans.
- Administer prescription and over‑the‑counter medications in accordance with physician orders, standing orders, and nursing best practices.
- Perform point‑of‑care testing and maintain accurate clinical documentation within Magnus Health.
- Review and maintain student health records, ensuring compliance with Connecticut regulations and School requirements.
- Monitor immunization records, physical examinations, medication orders, and required medical documentation.
- Maintain secure medication storage and complete daily medication counts, including controlled substances.
- Support management of international student health insurance and related documentation.
- Communicate effectively with families, faculty, administrators, and healthcare providers regarding student health needs.
- Coordinate referrals, appointments, transportation, and follow‑up care with off‑campus medical providers.
- Respond to medical emergencies and collaborate with the Administrator on Duty and emergency responders when necessary.
- Notify appropriate school personnel regarding student attendance related to Health Center visits.
- Promote healthy lifestyles through student education, counseling, and wellness initiatives.
- Assist with annual health programming, including influenza vaccination clinics and other preventative health efforts.
- Serve as a trusted health resource for students, families, and colleagues.
- Fulfill mandated reporter responsibilities in accordance with Connecticut law and School policy.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in Magnus Health.
- Provide front desk coverage and respond to Health Center phone calls and communications as needed.
- Maintain inventory of medications and health office supplies.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and contribute to continuous improvement within Health Services.
- Perform other duties that support the health, safety, and well‑being of the School community.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Connecticut.
- Current BLS certification.
- Minimum of five years of pediatric nursing experience, preferably in a school, pediatric, urgent care, or emergency department setting.
- Experience with Magnus Health, Blackbaud, Orah, and Google Workspace is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with an interdisciplinary team.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to working with adolescents in a diverse and inclusive educational community.
- On‑site hourly rate: $35–$40 per hour, commensurate with experience.
- Overnight on‑call rate: $17.36 per hour.
