Engineering & Programming Technician

This position will be required to perform multiple duties ranging from general electrical work to automation systems design and programming. The team member must have a high electrical and programming aptitude with good hands-on ability. The Engineering & Programming Technician works independently throughout the manufacturing plant to analyze, modify, and build control systems to improve safety, quality, delivery, and productivity of equipment and facility systems.

Additionally, this individual may be called upon to assist in troubleshooting machine issues, to implement safety, quality, and productivity projects, and to introduce new products and processes. This individual will be responsible for identifying and implementing opportunities that are machine and process related that can be improved through the use of technology. This position works with other technicians, tool room personnel, planners/schedulers, engineers, department managers, and operators during the analysis, build, and implementation phases of various projects.

This individual may also work with the MES systems group to ensure that Pella control systems standards are applied and maintained.

ENVIRONMENT :

• Noise level requires hearing protection in designated areas

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work hand in hand with engineers to support MDI, capacity, safety, etc. requirements
• Flexibility of work hours including mandatory OT when business needs requires it to meet customer and company needs
• Ability to safely work with and around moving equipment
• Must comply with safety, quality, and production requirements and procedures
• Must be able to read and analyze technical schematics and blueprints
• Specify, develop, modify, install, troubleshoot, and maintain automation control and data acquisition systems (hardware and software), serving as a primary resource for automation related subjects
• Set up, install and operate a wide range of industrial electrical and electronic equipment
• Assumes responsibility for the completion of assigned projects within negotiated time and cost schedules
• Will work directly/coach field technicians to help improve their overall skills by sharing knowledge of new processes and technology
• Ability to communicate in a concise, polite and respectful manner with team members
• Must maintain good housekeeping
• Ability to assist with the building of machines, tools, fixtures, jigs, and templates, as well as the project management of all of these
• Knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and computers
• Must independently write, analyze, and modify PLC programs
• Maintain backup copies of PLC programs used in production and facility related equipment.
• Ability to troubleshoot and assist maintenance efforts when needed
• Ability to obtain the appropriate PIV license.
• Ability to work on ladders and vertical lifts when required

• Provide training to others on areas of expertise
• Ability to travel as needed for business needs

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Manufacturing-related experience is preferred
• Job specific experience is preferred
• Maintenance progression completion preferred
• Diploma of Technology in Electrical/Electronics or an Associates degree in Engineering Technology or related technical field

OR

• Proven proficiency in one or more of the following categories and demonstrated knowledge in at least one of the remaining categories
• Electrical systems design
• PLC/HMI programming
• CNC programming
• Robotic systems
• Integrated manufacturing systems programming

SKILLS AND TALENTS:

• Decision making / problem solving in a manufacturing environment with minimal supervision
