Summary

The Long Term Care Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) provides direct care for Long‑Term Care residents, following Care Plans and helping each resident achieve and maintain the highest level of health and physical condition.

General Hours of Work

4‑hour, 8‑hour, or 9‑hour shift (weekend & holiday involvement).

Education and/or Experience
  • Completion of a 75‑hour C.N.A. course preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Prior related work experience preferred.
  • Annual in‑service training: 12 hours.
Certificate, Licenses, Registrations
  • State of Iowa Certified Nursing Assistant required.
  • CPR certification preferred.
Essential Functions
  • Communicates effectively with residents, families, and coworkers to protect and promote each resident’s dignity, individuality and rights.
  • Assesses patient’s daily needs and treatments, including obtaining and recording vital signs, height, weight, and assessing the need for assistance with dressing, bathing, eating, and ambulation.
  • Conducts assessments with consideration for the patient’s choice, privacy, dignity, and independence.
  • Provides input in the multidisciplinary care planning process.
  • Assists patients with bathing, dressing, shaving, oral hygiene, bed making, transfer, repositioning, toileting, feeding, answering call lights, maintaining a clean environment, transporting upon admission and dismissal, ambulation, and orienting patients to the facility.
  • Performs specific medical care activities such as restorative exercises, specimen collection, administering enemas, bowel and bladder training, intake and output monitoring, dietary intake/calorie counts, pain management, and reporting changes to nursing staff.
  • Performs safety and infection control procedures, including fire, tornado, evacuation, disaster plan, universal precautions, hazardous chemical communication program.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the facility’s strategic and operational plans and supports them daily.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
