Summary

The Long Term Care Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) provides direct care for the Long-Term Care residents that follows the Care Plan and assists each resident to achieve and maintain the highest level of health and physical condition.

General Hours of Work

4, 8, 9 hour shift (weekend & holiday involvement) (9:00 pm - 6:30 am every 3rd weekend only)

Education and Experience

Completion of a 75 hour C.N.A. course preferred. Prefer high school diploma or GED. Prior related work experience preferred. Attends 12 hours of in-service training yearly.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Certified as a Nursing Assistant in the State of Iowa required. CPR certification preferred.

Essential Functions
  • Communicates effectively with residents, families, and coworkers to protect and promote each resident’s dignity, individuality and rights.
  • Assesses patient’s daily needs and treatments, including vital signs, height, weight, and assistance with dressing, bathing, eating, and ambulation, respecting privacy and independence.
  • Provides or assists the patient with daily needs and treatments in accordance with established policy and procedure (bathing, dressing, shaving, oral hygiene, bed making, transferring, repositioning, toileting, feeding, call lights, environment, transportation).
  • Assists patients with specific medical care activities (restorative exercises, specimen collection, enemas, bowel and bladder training, intake and output, baths, dietary intake/calorie counts) and documents outcomes.
  • Performs safety and infection control procedures (fire, tornado, evacuation, disaster plan, universal precautions, hazardous and chemical communication program). Demonstrates knowledge of facility strategic and operational plans and supports them daily.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
