- The Long Term Care RN is responsible for directing and supervising resident care consistent with the Iowa Nursing Practice Code, Federal, State, and Sioux Center Health standards of care while promoting each resident’s highest practicable physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being.
- General Hours of Work: 8 and 12 hour rotating shift; nights, weekend, call involvement.
- Education And/or
Experience:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, for registered nurse. Minimum of one year of experience in Long Term Care preferred. - Certificate, Licenses, Registrations:
Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Iowa. Must obtain CPR certification within 3 months of hire date. - RN
Essential Functions:
Utilize the “nursing process” (ongoing assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation) in the practice of nursing. Includes assessing health status, formulating diagnoses, planning, implementing, and evaluating care. - Recognize and understand the legal implications of accountability, including supervision of activities, delegation to unlicensed personnel, and ensuring nursing care is delivered appropriately.
- Executing the regimen prescribed by the physician while exercising professional judgment according to minimum standards of nursing practice. Accountability includes notifying the physician and documenting actions when orders are not executed.
- Performs, Skillfully And Proficiently, The Following Duties:
Reads shift reports, supervises meals and nourishment, makes rounds for unstable residents, administers medications and treatments as ordered, documents all medications and treatments, supervises restraints and call lights, and notifies pharmacy of regimen changes. - Supervises all resident care and assists with direct care as needed; observes, evaluates, and documents changes in residents’ conditions regularly.
- Assists in managerial responsibilities (interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; resolving problems).
Participate in the nursing process by assisting a registered nurse or physician. The LPN may assist in monitoring, observing, and reporting reactions to interventions, but must refrain from activities requiring the knowledge and skill level of a registered nurse. Engaged in a limited scope of intravenous therapy under supervision, including adding non-medicated IV solutions, regulating IV solution rates, and managing maintenance doses with a pump;
may discontinue IV therapy as allowed by Iowa Code.
- Education:
Perform intravenous therapy procedures as outlined in Iowa Code, Chapter 6, Nursing Practice for Registered Nurses/Licensed Practical Nurses following board-approved intravenous therapy certification. - Supervise Unlicensed Assistant Personnel Under The Provisions Of The Iowa Code, including direct observation of functions, delegation of tasks, and ensuring appropriate nursing care.
- Assists in managerial responsibilities and performs other duties as assigned.
Education
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing;
Registered Nurse license in Iowa; CPR certification required within 3 months of hire date.
