Job Description

Western Iowa Tech Community College is seeking qualified Behind-the-Wheel (BTW) Driver Education Instructors to provide hands-on driving instruction to students with varying levels of driving experience. Instruction takes place on public roads using a Driver Education training vehicle equipped with a passenger-side brake pedal.

This is a part-time, on-call position requiring flexible scheduling. The number of lessons scheduled per day or week cannot be guaranteed. Typical hours include after-school, evening, weekend, and Sunday hours during the school year.

Job Responsibilities

* Conduct behind-the-wheel driving lessons following approved Driver Education curriculum and instructional philosophy.

* Provide calm, clear, and supportive instruction to student drivers.

* Ensure student safety at all times while operating a Driver Education training vehicle.

* Maintain current knowledge of Iowa driving laws and regulations.

* Communicate professionally with students, families, and program staff.

* Complete required documentation related to lessons and student progress.

Required Qualifications

* Must be at least 21 years of age.

* Must possess a valid driver's license permitting unaccompanied driving.

* Must maintain a clean driving record for the previous two years as defined by Iowa Administrative Rule.

* Must successfully complete a Behind-the-Wheel Instructor Training Program.

* Must obtain and maintain certification from the Iowa Department of Transportation.

* Must obtain and maintain authorization from the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners.

Preferred Qualifications

* Previous experience in driver education, instruction, or coaching preferred.
