Overview

Seeking a PLC Programmer / Automation Controls Specialist to support and maintain industrial automation systems within a manufacturing environment. This position will be responsible for PLC programming, troubleshooting, controls support, and assisting with automation projects to improve system performance, reliability, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

PLC Programming & Controls Support
  • Develop, troubleshoot, and maintain PLC and automation programs across multiple industrial control platforms.
  • Support industrial communication networks and interfaces used in automated production systems.
  • Configure and troubleshoot VFDs, motion controls, instrumentation, and process control systems.
  • Assist with HMI updates and operator interface improvements.
Troubleshooting & Maintenance
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical and controls-related issues to reduce downtime and improve equipment reliability.
  • Support preventive maintenance activities related to control systems and automation hardware.
  • Provide technical support to maintenance and operations teams as needed, including occasional after-hours support.
Project & Startup Support
  • Participate in automation and capital improvement projects from concept through startup and commissioning.
  • Assist with system testing, panel layouts, I/O validation, and implementation of new equipment.
  • Support installation and startup of automation systems in a manufacturing setting.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization, reliability improvements, and automation upgrades.
  • Recommend improvements to existing controls architecture and legacy systems.
  • Stay current on evolving automation technologies and best practices.
  • Maintain accurate documentation including program backups, revision tracking, wiring documentation, and procedures.
  • Work cross-functionally with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to support plant objectives.
  • Help train operators and maintenance personnel on new or updated systems when necessary.
Qualifications Technical Skills
  • Experience with industrial PLC platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Schneider Electric, Modicon, or similar systems.
  • Familiarity with HMI/SCADA platforms and industrial automation software.
  • Understanding of industrial communication protocols and control system architecture.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, P&IDs, and technical drawings.
  • Experience supporting drives, instrumentation, and automated manufacturing equipment preferred.
Preferred Background
  • 2+ years of PLC programming or industrial automation experience in manufacturing or process environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in fast-paced production environments.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while working independently and collaboratively.
Additional Information
  • Position operates within an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Occasional overtime, travel, or on-call support may be required depending on operational needs.
