As a member of the interdisciplinary team, contributes professional nursing knowledge and skills in the provision and management of care to patients and their families. Maintains a practice environment that reflects the ANA Code for Nurses, Philosophy of Nursing at UnityPoint Health within the structure of the Professional Nurse Practice Model and in collaboration with other care givers.

- Assesses the needs of patients and families, providing appropriate teaching and referrals to ensure continuity of care.
- Develops an individual plan of care using a collaborative approach with the patient/family and health care team.
- Completes documentation promptly to assure an accurate legal record of patient care.
- Delivers high-quality care utilizing the nursing process while applying knowledge and clinical skills of the specialty on the assigned unit in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of care.
- Uses a holistic approach (biopsychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety) appropriate to the age of patients and families served.
- Delegates and provides direction for other healthcare providers and holds them accountable for their role in the plan of care.
- Uses critical thinking to make independent judgments and maintains responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of patients’ conditions.
- Continues professional development and involvement in activities that enhance nursing practice by sharing knowledge through networking and research.
- Assesses and selects teaching strategies appropriate to patients’ and families’ age, culture, readiness to learn, and level of comprehension.
- Consults appropriate resources within the hospital to provide specialized education.
- Demonstrates knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting concerns immediately.
- Education:
Graduate of accredited nursing program. - Licensure/
Certifications:
Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa. Basic Life Support (BLS) certified prior to hire. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification or obtain within six (6) months from date of hire. Completion of one hour of stroke education prior to the end of orientation and annually. - Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Valid driver’s license for work-related driving. Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking). Multicultural sensitivity. Basic Microsoft Office skills. Customer/patient-focused. Critical thinking with independent judgment. - Other:
