Advanced Practice Providers

The University of Iowa Health Care, Child Health Specialty Clinics (CHSC), is seeking an 80% ARNP Supervisor. This position is located in Sioux City, IA.

Function as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner by assessing the needs and conditions of children and youth with special health care needs (CYSHCN). Facilitate increased awareness of Division of Child and Community Health (DCCH) programs and systems of care development for CYSHCN. Manage operations of regional center and supervise staff members.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Assess the physical, psychosocial, and developmental status of children, youth and young adults by means of history taking, records review, physical examination, and developmental and/or mental health screening/testing.
  • Develop patient care plan with the family and care team, including teaching and counseling, referring to other services, coordinating care, and prescribing medications, if indicated. Monitor follow-through of the care plan and evaluate effectiveness of care provided.
  • Complete patient medical records, reports, and forms, according to UI Health Care standards and guidelines. Bill for services appropriately.
  • Ensure that all services utilize the principles of family-centered, community-based, and comprehensive care.
  • Increase community awareness of DCCH programs.
  • Provide leadership for and/or participate in development of infrastructure for new programs serving CYSHCN and their families. Provide advocacy for and education about programs.
  • Seek opportunities to expand professional knowledge, skills, and abilities in order to continually strive to improve quality of care provided to CYSHCN and their families.
  • Participate in and/or provide leadership for program-wide quality assessments and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee efforts directed at achieving the State and National Performance Measures defined by the Maternal and Child Health Title V Program.
  • Provide management of regional center, with responsibility for day-to-day management of finances, facilities and equipment.
  • Supervise and evaluate staff members housed within the regional center in accordance with established evaluation criteria, personnel policies and union contracts.
  • Participate on DCCH committees and work groups.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree. Master's degree in nursing preferred. If Master's is in a related field, a Baccalaureate degree in nursing is required.
  • Current Iowa nursing license and current Iowa ARNP license by time of hire.
  • ARNP certification in specialty area of Pediatrics, Family or Psychiatric Mental Health by time of hire.
  • Minimum of five years of experience as an ARNP.
  • Pediatrics nursing experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage the care of children and young adults with special health care needs (including developmental disabilities, behavioral concerns and serious emotional disorders).
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively in a welcoming and respectful workplace environment.
  • Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven capacity to function with a high degree of autonomy while also working effectively in a team setting.
  • Ability to travel between clinic locations on a regular basis. Requires valid driver's license plus the ability to meet and maintain the University of Iowa Fleet Safety standards.

Qualifications:

  • Previous ARNP/Nursing experience working with children and young adults with special health care needs (including developmental disabilities, behavioral concerns or serious emotional disorders) is highly desirable.
  • Management and supervisory experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience in developing and implementing pediatric care plans and providing care coordination, preferably working with children with special health care needs and their families.
  • Experience working with public health programs, preferably programs serving children with special health care needs.
