Lead Security Officer

Overview

Unity Point St. Luke's‑Downtown – Full Time, Days (M‑F 8:00‑4:30, rotating weekends as needed). Assist the Security Manager/Director in attaining department goals and objectives. Support and assist in controlling the department, performing duties to direct and control operational functions and staff. Aid in maintaining a safe and secure atmosphere throughout the hospital complex. The Security Officer Lead I directs and coordinates on‑shift personnel, promotes professionalism by providing leadership, direction, and engaging in activities that enhance individual performance and the reputation of the Security Department.

• Provide feedback to the Security Leader on staff performance and activities that affect operations
• Act as liaison between Security Officers and the Security Leader
• May be assigned by the Security Leader to work on the department schedule and serve as designee to sign all PL request forms or other forms
• Ensure Security Officers perform duties appropriately
• Assist the Security Leader in educating officers on new policies, procedures, equipment or techniques, and may be required to train new officers
• Direct staff in the absence of the Security Leader; assign work, respond to requests, and ensure completion
• Be on‑call when the Security Leader is absent (vacation, sick leave, etc.)
• May be required to perform other duties expected by the Security Leader

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Associate’s degree in criminal justice or related field preferred

• Minimum one (1) year of experience in security and/or law enforcement
• Law enforcement and/or military experience preferred

• Certified Healthcare Security Supervisor (IAHSS) within 180 days
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days
• Completion of Advanced De‑Escalation‑Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) within 90 days
• IA Mandatory Reporter Training – Adult and Child Abuse within 180 days
• Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work‑related reasons required
