The Underground Utilities Department is looking to hire a Utility Maintenance Worker. Come be a part of a great team that provides a huge service to our community!

This position will be required to perform duties related to the maintenance and repair of the City's water and sewer infrastructure. Sanitary & Storm cleaning. Repairs and replaces water mains, hydrants, storm and sanitary sewer lines. Drives and operates jet vac trucks, pickup trucks, heavy equipment, and other department related equipment.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

Graduation from High School or GED.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in maintenance of equipment, knowledge of repair & installation of plumbing devices, etc.

Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Class A CDL w/tanker and air brake endorsement within 6 months of hire. A commercial learners permit is required before starting this position.

Employee will be required to serve on a stand-by rotation and overtime may be required.

Underground Utilities operates from Sunday at 10:30 p.m. to Friday at 11:00 p.m., divided into three (3) shifts.

10:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Our current opening is a Monday - Friday 6:30 am to 3:00 pm position in the Utilities Sanitary Sewer Division.

Residency Requirement:

Employees must reside within 30 miles of Sioux City limits, including eligible areas in Nebraska and South Dakota.

Duties

* Assists in the construction, maintenance and installation of water and sewer infrastructure.

* Builds and cleans out sewers, manholes and catch basins using rakes, shovels and jet vac truck.

* Repairs and replaces water mains, hydrants, storm water and sanitary sewer lines.

* Takes water samples and performs basic lab tests on the samples as they relate to water and sewer operations.

* Performs confined space entry.

* Picks up trash, and debris in and around buildings and work sites.

* Cleans and maintains tools and equipment in proper and safe working order.

* Drives and operates trucks, loaders, tractors, and other related small equipment.

* May perform various custodial duties.

* Maintains good public relations through courteous and prompt attention to all citizen requests for service.

* Maintains regular and punctual attendance and working hours.

* Expected to temporarily perform duties outside of normal classification in the event of a declared emergency. In the event that an employee is excused from work other than being sick, they will be required to report to work in a state of declared emergency.

Ability to speak effectively with fellow employees and citizens; read in English; apply common sense understanding to the work process, procedures, programs and services; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers (internal and external, City officials and regulatory personnel; and to provide and follow verbal and written instructions.
