About Matinee Accounting

Matinee Accounting is a locally owned accounting firm helping small-business owners spend less time managing their books and more time doing what they love. Our team provides personalized bookkeeping, accounting, payroll, and financial services tailored to each client’s needs.

We are looking for an experienced, detail-oriented Staff Accountant who enjoys working with multiple clients, solving problems, and building meaningful relationships with small-business owners. The ideal candidate has a strong background in public accounting, experience managing multiple Quick Books files, and hands-on knowledge of multistate payroll and payroll-tax reporting.

Responsibilities
  • Manage bookkeeping and accounting functions for multiple small-business clients and Quick Books company files.
  • Record and categorize financial transactions and maintain accurate general ledgers.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, loans, and other balance-sheet accounts.
  • Prepare journal entries and complete monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close procedures.
  • Prepare accurate financial statements and other client-specific financial reports.
  • Track income and expenses by job, project, location, or other categories, as appropriate.
  • Process payroll for multiple clients on weekly, biweekly, semimonthly, and monthly schedules.
  • Prepare and file federal and multistate payroll-tax returns and related reports.
  • Calculate and submit payroll-tax deposits and maintain payroll compliance across applicable states.
  • Prepare year-end payroll documents, including Forms W-2 and 1099, as applicable.
  • Assist with payroll registrations, unemployment reporting, and other state-specific payroll requirements.
  • Enter vendor invoices and coordinate accounts payable processing and payment activities.
  • Prepare customer invoices, record payments and deposits, and assist with accounts receivable management.
  • Prepare and file applicable sales-tax and excise-tax returns.
  • Report payroll information for workers’ compensation policies and assist with annual workers’ compensation audits.
  • Communicate directly with clients to request information, answer questions, resolve discrepancies, and provide updates.
  • Maintain organized client records and supporting documentation.
  • Manage competing deadlines and priorities across multiple client accounts.
  • Collaborate with the Accounting Manager and other team members to ensure accurate, timely client service.

This position does not include preparing individual or business income-tax returns.

Required Qualifications
  • Degree in accounting.
  • At least two years of experience in a public accounting environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple Quick Books company files for multiple clients.
  • Hands-on experience processing payroll and preparing payroll-tax returns in multiple states.
  • Strong understanding of bookkeeping, general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
  • Experience preparing payroll-tax filings and meeting federal and state reporting deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Quick Books and Microsoft Excel.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize assignments, and manage multiple client deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Professionalism, discretion, and the ability to maintain confidential client information.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Quick Books Online and Quick Books Desktop.
  • Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and sales-tax reporting.
  • Familiarity with multistate payroll registrations and unemployment reporting.
  • Experience with workers’ compensation reporting and audit preparation.
  • Experience with job-cost accounting or project-based financial reporting.
  • Comfort working directly with small-business owners across different industries.
