Position Summary

The Estimator is responsible for developing accurate, competitive, and comprehensive cost estimates that support successful project bidding and execution. This role partners closely with operations, field teams, vendors, and clients to ensure scope clarity, cost accuracy, and alignment with project goals.

Hours

A typical workweek is Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM; actual working hours and days may vary due to project deadlines. May require weekend or evening work at times.

Compensation

Starting at $75,000 per year.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze historical data and current market trends to inform pricing.
  • Develop detailed quantity takeoffs and cost breakdowns.
  • Utilize estimating software to model labor, material, and equipment costs.
  • Validate assumptions with field teams and project managers.
Analyzing Project Drawings and Specifications
  • Review architectural, structural, and MEP drawings for completeness.
  • Identify discrepancies, omissions, or constructability concerns.
  • Clarify scope with design teams, clients, and internal stakeholders.
  • Track revisions and ensure estimates reflect the most current documents.
Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination
  • Identify and prequalify subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Issue bid packages and manage the RFI process.
  • Evaluate bids for scope coverage, exclusions, and pricing accuracy.
  • Negotiate pricing and ensure alignment with project requirements.
  • Maintain vendor database including performance and pricing history.
Cost Risk Assessment and Value Engineering
  • Assess risks related to scope gaps, market volatility, and logistics.
  • Recommend alternative materials, methods, or sequencing strategies.
  • Collaborate with design and operations teams to evaluate value engineering options.
  • Document assumptions, contingencies, and exclusions clearly.
  • Present cost‑saving and risk mitigation recommendations to leadership and clients.
Collaboration and Proposal Preparation
  • Partner with business development, marketing, and operations on proposals.
  • Contribute to proposal narratives, schedules, and logistics plans.
  • Participate in pre‑bid meetings, site visits, and client interviews.
  • Ensure estimates align with proposal strategy and client expectations.
  • Support project handoff to operations upon award.
Required

Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field.
  • 5+ years of commercial construction estimating experience.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Familiarity with subcontractor management and bid leveling processes.
  • Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Working knowledge of construction methods, materials, and sequencing.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration across teams.
Working Conditions
  • Primarily office‑based with periodic job site visits.
