The Classroom Teacher is responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing instruction aligned with District curriculum, state standards, and student learning needs. This position creates a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment that supports academic growth, social‑emotional development, and positive student behavior. The Classroom Teacher works collaboratively with administrators, colleagues, families, and support staff to promote student success.
Instruction & Curriculum- Plan and deliver effective, standards‑aligned instruction using district‑approved curriculum and instructional strategies.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, behavioral, and social‑emotional needs of students.
- Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Integrate technology and instructional resources to enhance learning experiences.
- Establish and maintain a positive, respectful, and structured classroom environment.
- Implement District and building behavior expectations consistently and fairly.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom culture for all students.
- Assess student learning and maintain accurate academic records.
- Provide timely feedback to students and families regarding progress and performance.
- Prepare report cards, progress reports, and required documentation.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and needs.
- Collaborate with colleagues, counselors, and administrators to support student success.
- Participate in student support meetings as required.
- Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and required trainings.
- Maintain appropriate licensure and certifications.
- Follow District policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
- Supervise students during instructional and assigned non‑instructional duties.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field required.
- Valid South Dakota teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement(s) required.
- Knowledge of instructional best practices, curriculum standards, and assessment methods.
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to use technology and data to support instruction and student learning.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, and move throughout classrooms, school buildings, and grounds.
- Ability to use hands and fingers for writing, typing, and handling instructional materials.
- Ability to lift, carry, or move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to supervise students and respond appropriately in emergency or safety situations.
- Ability to visually and audibly monitor students and the surrounding environment.
