This position is funded through either department funds or Federal Work Study (FWS) funds. Students who are not eligible for FWS are still encouraged to apply, as department funding may be available.

Position Summary

Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders are peer educators who facilitate group study sessions to support student learning in historically challenging courses. SI Leaders attend lectures, plan and lead interactive study sessions, and help students develop effective learning strategies.

This position is ideal for students who are strong communicators, enjoy helping others, and have excelled in the course they will support.

Responsibilities
  • Attend all lectures for the assigned course(s) - If schedule allows.
  • Plan and lead 1 weekly SI session, encouraging collaborative learning and engagement.
  • Create and share session materials (practice problems, guides, study tools, etc.).
  • Maintain consistent communication with course instructor and SI supervisor.
  • Take attendance and track student participation for reporting purposes.
  • Participate in the beginning of the semester training.
  • Serve as a positive academic role model and resource for students.
Qualifications
  • Must be a currently enrolled student in good academic standing.
  • Must have previously completed the assigned course with a grade of B+ or higher (or equivalent).
  • Strong recommendations from department instructors.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Dependable, organized, and self-motivated.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Willingness to attend training.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with peer tutoring, mentoring, or leading groups.
  • Knowledge of active learning techniques or study strategies.
  • Interest in education, teaching, or student success.
Training Provided

All SI Leaders will receive paid training and ongoing support to ensure confidence in session planning, group facilitation, and student engagement.
