Position: Structured Teach Special Education Teacher - 1.0 FTE at Horace Mann Elementary
Qualifications
Education Level: Bachelor's degree and endorsements in teaching assignments. South Dakota teaching certificate required.
Experience Desired:
At least 1 year of work experience requiring interpersonal interaction skills and knowledge of strategies to support students with challenging behaviors.
Physical Requirements:
Constant hand‑eye coordination, hearing; intermittent speaking, standing, walking, writing; ability to provide physical management to students with behavioral or self‑care needs.
Other Requirements:
Excellent oral and written communication; skills in human relations, leadership, conflict management; knowledge of teaching techniques for diverse students; computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, databases); knowledge of IEP process and special education law; training in assessment and information interpretation.
Responsibilities
Plan and prepare instructional tasks that are meaningful and related to learning goals.Provide instruction to students: implement district curriculum; maintain instructional focus; communicate expectations and learning goals; adapt instruction; address learning styles; sequence content; use appropriate questioning; relate lessons to prior learning; require summarization; recognize effort; represent knowledge non‑linguistically; organize grouping; require analysis; show enjoyment and enthusiasm; conduct ongoing assessments.Provide effective classroom environment: establish rules, enforce consistently; redirect students; stay organized; manage smooth transitions; maximize instruction time; begin and end class with a focus on learning; establish a positive environment.Participate in professional growth; school/community events; complete routine tasks; promote the profession; communicate professionally; conduct parent‑teacher conferences per policy.Follow district building policies and procedures.Support district goals.Report student progress to parents and students.Perform other duties: case‑manage student IEPs; coordinate documentation; implement strategies; participate in IEP meetings; maintain records per district, state, and federal guidelines.Compensation
Starting at $53,981 to $60,793 per year, based on experience.
Schedule
Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm (40 hours per week, 1.0 FTE, 9 months).
