This position is for the 2026-27 school year.
The Educational Support Professional (ESP) in the CTE Academy Carpentry Program supports instructional activities by assisting with hands‑on construction of two homes each school year, student supervision, and shop operations. This role ensures a safe, organized, and productive learning environment while reinforcing industry standards and instructional goals. The position will include performing regular physical activity, including climbing ladders and scaffolding, lifting and moving lumber and materials, and standing for extended periods.
Other qualifications include a knowledge of carpentry practices, tools, and construction safety standards, ability to work effectively with high school students in a hands‑on learning environment and strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Education Level: Two years post‑high school education or higher, or be able to pass a standardized test approved by the state of South Dakota.
- Physical Requirements: This position requires constant hand‑eye, mind‑eye coordination, hearing; intermittent holding, repetitive motions with wrists, hands, fingers, opening, pulling, reaching, sitting, sorting, speaking, talking, turning and writing. Frequent bending over, carrying, filing, grasping, keyboarding and stooping are required. occasionally.
- Other Requirements: Demonstrated skill using a computer for word processing and data entry. May be required to complete a safety course/operation course for the use of production/power tools.
- Assists teacher in identifying student needs.
- Provides tutorial assistance for students in all classes.
- Prepares instruction and supplementary materials.
- Maintains familiarity with the operation of production/power tools and equipment.
- Maintains proficiency in the safety measures and requirements of production/power tools.
- Keeps records.
- Checks papers, workbooks, homework and tests.
- Assists students with makeup work.
- Maintains student confidentiality.
- Assists teachers in supervising students in the classroom.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Level G, Starting at $18.42 per hour + $1,000 Sign‑On Bonus!
Pay Day:
Last working day of each month, based on the payroll cutoff schedule.
Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a one‑hour unpaid lunch.
0.875 FTE, 35 hours per week, 9 months.
