The Sanford School of Medicine is seeking applications for an LIC Advisor for Neurosciences. The position is responsible for monitoring student participation in the longitudinal integrated clerkship, providing periodic feedback to students on their performance, overseeing student assessment by faculty preceptors, and coordinating discipline specific activities. Serving as an LIC instructor in the clinic setting is expected, and regular attendance at monthly advising committee meetings is critical to this position.

The LIC advisor reports to the clerkship director who is ultimately responsible for the direction of the clerkship.

Expectations:

  • Maintain board certification (or board eligibility, if appropriate) through the appropriate specialty board.
  • Understand school-wide educational goals for students as outlined in the Pillar 2 handbook.
  • Communicate specific curricular goals of the respective department and the SSOM as a whole clearly to students and faculty.
  • Provide feedback to individual students and faculty in a skilled manner.
  • Manage a credible, consistent, and fair process of student assessment and grading that will meet legal and accreditation standards and be completed in a timely manner in collaboration with the Offices of Medical Education and Medical Student Affairs.
  • Analyze multiple sources of program evaluation data (e.g. student evaluations, SPEL reports) to effect appropriate quality improvement in the educational program.
  • Collaborate with other LIC advisors and educational leaders to continually improve the educational program.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of remediation for students who do not successfully pass the clerkship.
  • Provide skilled career counseling that includes knowledge of residency programs in the advisor's specialty.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and leadership skills with students and faculty.
  • Advise the advising committee chair, clerkship director, and associate dean of medical student education on educational policy and strategic planning, with attention to anticipated changes in resources and societal needs.
