POSITION SUMMARY
The University of Sioux Falls Assistant Director of Student Life will manage all areas of student involvement on campus to create a rich co-curricular experience that builds leadership skills and contributes to student retention by overseeing campus-wide activities, student organizations, intramurals, and events. This position may supervise undergraduate students while creating a vibrant and active student activities experience within the Christian mission of the University and at the direction of the Area Vice President of Student Life and Housing.
MAJOR FUNCTIONS
* Develop, implement, and assess outcome-based campus programming that enhances student engagement and supports both residential and commuter students.
* Plan, organize, and execute major campus events in collaboration with the Campus Activities Board (CAB) and Residence Life staff.
* Manage event contracts and coordinate with the Business Office and Risk Management to ensure compliance with university policies.
* Collaborate with Campus Dining and other University departments to coordinate campus-wide initiatives such as Finals Breakfast, Service Day, and other signature events.
* Co-chair the Culture for Service initiative with the University Chaplains, faculty, staff, and students.
* Serve as the primary advisor and mentor to the Campus Activities Board (CAB), Student Government, Peer Mentors, and Orientation Coordinators.
* Foster leadership development, organizational effectiveness, and student engagement.
* Develop, manage, and monitor the Student Activities budget and other assigned departmental budgets.
* Ensure responsible fiscal stewardship and alignment with departmental priorities.
* Participate as a professional staff member in the Student Life on-call rotation, responding to student emergencies and critical incidents as needed.
* Plan, organize, and evaluate New Student Orientation (NSO) and Welcome Week programs.
* Recruit, select, train, supervise, and evaluate Orientation Leaders, Peer Mentors, and other student leadership positions.
* Collaborate with the Director of Student Life & Housing to develop and facilitate IMPACT leadership training for student leaders.
* Assist in the planning and implementation of training programs for Resident Directors, Residence Life staff, IMPACT leaders, and Orientation Leaders.
* Promote student leadership development through ongoing training and professional growth opportunities.
* Assist in supervising graduate assistants and their assigned functional areas, which may include:
* Advise and mentor the Homecoming Committee.
* Organize the Homecoming planning team and oversee the coordination of campus-wide Homecoming activities.
* Collaborate with Athletics, Facilities, Alumni Relations, and other campus partners to ensure successful event execution.
* Serve as a liaison between Student Life and University faculty, staff, and administration.
* Participate on University committees and task forces as assigned.
* Collaborate with Academic Support and other campus departments to promote student success, engagement, and retention.
* Serve as an active member of the CARE Team by identifying, assessing, and coordinating support for students experiencing academic, behavioral, emotional, or personal challenges.
* Perform other responsibilities and special projects as assigned by the Director of Student Life & Housing.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are seeking candidates who possess communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues.
* Bachelor's degree required;
Master's preferred
* Three or more years of experience in student affairs or a related field.
* Demonstrated commitment to the USF Christian mission and a strong desire to assist students in understanding the mission and programs of the University.
* Demonstrated commitment to diversity and the ability to relate well with students, faculty, staff, and guests.
* Ability to demonstrate strong organizational, problem-solving, and multitasking skills
* Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated experience and ability to work successfully with students
* Strong verbal and written communication skills
* Ability and willingness to work irregular hours including evenings and weekends.
* Experience with Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel and Word; CARS experience a plus
* Ability to lift and carry weights of 20 pounds; valid driver's license; ability to successfully pass a USF background check.
