Requirements Education LevelTwo years of post high school education or higher, or ability to pass a standardized test approved by the state of South Dakota, for designated Education Assistant positions.
Experience DesiredExperience working with individuals with disabilities or experience with behavior management.
Physical RequirementsThe physical demands of this job include general activity such as sitting, standing, walking, bending, squatting, kneeling, pushing and pulling throughout the school day. The position requires carrying and lifting of body weight and/or objects/equipment as well as pushing/pulling forces of individuals in wheelchairs and adaptive devices from 1 to 40 pounds continuously, 40-60 pounds frequently and from 60 to 99 pounds occasionally.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical, if new hires (including transfers).
Must demonstrate and pass safety competency review on a yearly basis.
Post-Offer Criminal Background Check Required.
Relay Services for Deaf or Hard of Hearing:
Dial 711, then the desired number.
- Assists students in accessing transportation.
- Provides personal care to students with special daily living needs (e.g., toileting, feeding, physical management) in accordance with established safety competencies.
- Provides review and practice of skills taught by a teacher with students 1:1 and in small groups in special education classroom and/or regular classroom.
- Works with students in schools and in community sites.
- Prepares instructional materials as directed/selected by teacher.
- Reinforces instructional/behavioral objectives with children as directed by the teacher/therapist.
- Assists to maintaining student records (charting, assignments, attendance, data for progress notes).
- Monitors identified student(s) in lunchroom/on playground.
- Maintain the confidentiality of students and their families.
- Assists with management of student behaviour.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
RISE Special Education Support Professional (0.4375 FTE) – Level G, Starting at $18.42 + $2* = $20.42 per hour. Each position that qualifies for the Education Support Professional differential pay earns an additional $2 per hour.
Resource Special Education Support Professional (0.4375 FTE) – Level G, Starting at $18.42 per hour.
Pay Day:
Last working day of each month, based on the payroll cutoff schedule.
Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm with a 30‑minute unpaid break – 0.875 FTE, 35 hours per week, 9 months.
* Important Note:
0.4375 FTE will serve as a RISE Special Education Support Professional (earning extra $2 differential pay) and as a Resource Special Education Support Professional.
Benefits (only for positions 20 hours per week or more).
